Is there a Half Life 1 "Cinematic" Mod? ('cos Black Mesa Source is taking ages)

Is there any kind of mod for HL1 (or maybe HL1:Source) that improves textures/models/graphics in general?

I know of Black Mesa but they are taking *such* a long time with their mod... I know it will be good at the end, but I think maybe they should have concentrated with a mod for HL1:Source rather than a complete re-make.

It'd be nice to get my gf (who's played HL2/Ep1) to play HL1, but she's of the shallow "graphics mean everything" generation and she really would let the poor graphics get in the way of her enjoying the game :(

I checked, and the answer is no. hl engine is limited, and it would be hard to mod.

black mesa source is taking way too long indeed :(

:( Sucks.

I thought it could be engine limitation too, but then again Valve have ported HL1 to the Source engine haven't they? So then wouldn't it (the source version of HL1) have the same limitations as any other source game?

Actually as it is based off the Quake engine, HL should be fairly easy to mod. There's a lot of great looking Quake mods out there.

Don't forget HL spawned mods like Counterstrike, Natural Selection and Day of Defeat etc.

Personally I don't think a visual makeover would add that much to HL anyway (for players who have already completed it), since the game's success is largely based around it's storytelling and of course combat. Even with updated models and textures it still won't look as good as games from a few years ago like Far Cry, Doom 3 or Halflife 2.

yeah HL:source was released by valve along with HL2. But it's identical to HL1, no remodelling/texturing. Basically HL1 with physics. And HL1 gameplay wasn't made with physics in mind, so there's no use for it really.

Yeah, it's a shame... because HL2 + Episodes appeals to so many people but there are a lot of poeple missing the first part of the half-life story, and they're quite often not interested in half-life 1 because of its poor graphics :(

Are there any screenshots of the Half-Life 1 Hi-Def Model Pack? I can only find like two, on wikipedia :(

And Black Mesa: Source... there's been an October 2007 leak apparently. Maybe that will show how things are getting on.

I really hope the reason they haven't released new info for a while is because they're making a lot of progress and want to surprise everyone. If that isn't the case, they are too anal. I've always had a bad impression of them from their forums.

yeah i had HL:source, identical to the old game but has real physics in it, and the water is like CSS water so it looks a little better.

don't forget pretty source water :D

@ black mesa source, it is still in development I think. the steam thread ( go to spuf forums, and go to hl2/third party mods) is still active, and the creators of BMS still post in that thread.

Black Mesa has shot itself in the foot. Its become so late that for the (stupid) new generation of "graphics mean everything" gamers this game will be dated from the moment its released. Its using HL2 Graphics which are what, 3 years old now? There lack of updates has meant even the hard core fans are just droppign away, bored of waiting.

Plus, I also expect it to not be free!
