I'm aware that there are two other (locked) threads on this film but not sure whether it's policy to re-open locked threads in this scenario? But anyway now that the film has been released we can discuss it one way or another whether through this thread or the others amalgamated (there are quite a few comments in one of them so perhaps someone could re-open that one?)

Anyway I watched it last night and thought that the acting was great, but it was extremely lacking in action, and I'd even go as far to say it was dull in places. For the quality of the sets and the acting though I'd give it 6.5/10.

Needed more action.

A film this good didn't need loads of action, it kept me so hooked my eyes and ears were glued to the screen for the whole 2.5 hours.

Best film this year imo, 9/10.

it was brilliant. I've not been disappointed with a Denzel film for a very long time. Definitely very highly recommended.

I totally agree, I'd give the film 9/10 myself, my favourite film of the year so far.

As for Denzel, he's as good an actor as there is.:)

Glad everyone rates it, it's not meant to be an action film. Going to see it on monday night. I can't watt now with these reviews.

I think Russell Crowe is very underrated - he was amazing in LA Confidential and A Beautiful Mind - 2 of my favourite films

Classic movie, most poeople think it's rubbish but they prob aint seen it soo..

8.5/10 for me, good storyline, good actors etc.

Great to see that everyone liked it. Loved the opening scene in particular (All 20 seconds of it lol). Only real complaint is that the beginning was too long and the ending was slightly rushed IMO, but they are only very minor points. Overall 9/10.

Another Oscar nomination for Denzel next year?

amazing film, as previously mentioned, not much action (not what you would expect from a ridley scott film with Russell crowe and denzil washington in it) but just keeps you glued for the whole duration, absolutely top notch acting.....and its amazing that this is based on a true story, straight after watching it i was on the internet reading up about frank lucas, very interesting stuff, and hes still alive!

Just come back from this

Superb film, best of the year for me

Yet again Denzel was amazing, and Crowe was also fantastic, like someone said earlier in the thread, he's a very under rated actor

In my toss up of which film to go and watch last night it was between American Gangster or No Country for Old Men.

I was hungry and AG was 30 minutes longer. NCFOM was superb, can't recommend it enough.
