Worth giving up my 8800 GTS 320 MB for an 8800 GT?

2GB of ram, 3GHZ C2D (blah blah blah) and a Asus P5N-E SLI (I heard that it is fine with the 8800 GT?)

What do people think? I have a friend who will buy the 8800 GTS off Me for the low end 100 quid (just to shift it) what do people think? I run at 1680x1050 BTW.

Games include HL2 and all the other fun games coming out :P

No not now the resale price has plummeted better off keeping the gts and buying a true next gen and keeping the gts as a backup card for future upgrades.

I recommend waiting until the 512mb 8800GTS comes out, should be quite a seizable performance difference between your card and that, specially in Crysis where more shader power is necessary to hold more fps at higher resolutions, or boost the shader quality itself.

I went from a 320mb GTS to the GT, and the GT totally blows it, can use 16xAA/16xAAF with supersampling in just about everything, GTS couldn't do more than 2xAA with Super, only game at 1280x1024 here though, but i cant see 1680x1050 being much different, as even 16x12 and above the GT's only a couple of frames behind GTX.

The new GTS is only a GT wit 16 more streams by all accounts, so i can't see it being that much faster (as even the GTX has 128), and i can't see it being worth an extra £100+ over the GT, but we'll see when its released.

Yes but you got more than £100-£120 for your card ? it's only worth it if you can sell at a good price selling for £120 then £50 on top of that for a gt - postage costs looking at about £60 to get a gt then you will lose money on the gt when you want to sell that for a gts or next card so in the end you might be spending over £100 just for upgrading to the gts or next card.
Better off keeping the gts as backup and just buying from fresh.

Hah, good one. If anything the GT should do less AA because of it's limited memory bitwidth, 2xAA on the GTS? I've seem them handle most Source engine games at 16X aa flawlessly. All though the 8800GT I will agree is a fair bit faster than the 8800GTS, it certainly doesnt warrant upgrading to it.

If you mean me, then i didn't, ive still got my GTS sitting here for back-up purposes. :)

Yes that is what i intend to do no point selling it for 15 fps more imo.But i am not getting a gt don't see the point of paying £170 for a gt for 1 months use and losing £20-£30 on the resale for 1 months use am awaiting the gts at least and if that isn't capable of maxing crysis i will wait until whatever card can.
If i could have sold my gts for £180 i would have but ebay is a dreadful place got 3 non paying bidders in a row.
OP wants to sell gts for £100 and get a gt which simply isn't worth it he should keep the GTS and buy a fresh card i'd rather have the gts for backup when it comes to upgrading the GT to the next card than £100.

I would say that now is the best time to get rid of your GTS, especially if going on the bay. The GT is very hard to get hold of at the moment and if you wait until the GT is in stock and the new GTS is out then it will be practically worthless. I got £168.50 + P&P for my EVGA superclocked 320mb GTS a couple of weeks ago on the bay and really did'nt lose that much on it. Less than £30 actually which was'nt too bad. That paid for my GT this week. :D The prices did go down when the GT was released but with them being so scarce the prices for the 320mb GTS have creapt back up.

2 weeks is a long time on the bay have a look now you'll be lucky to get £160 for a 640mb card the 320's go for£100-£120 on there now
i cant get rid of my evga 640mb with receipt for £160 on there with buy it now

Get rid and bag a new GTS or GT.

I game at the same res and the GT cuts through fine apart from crysis.

But is definetly better thna the 640mb GTS it replaced.

It's worth waiting, I can assure you. The shaders themselfs are actaully faster on the GTS aswell.

All I am saying is that after we have clocked the new GTS I don't see it being that much faster than the GT.

Depending on price the extra money for the GTS may not be worth it.

If it is much faster I will sell the GT and get one but if its an extra 100 quid for 16 more SP regrdaless of clocks(as we will clock them up)

Then I don't see a staggering ammount of extra performance there.

At the OP, having recently done what you're thinking of doing, I'd say it isn't worth it now unless you can get a decent price for your GTS.

I get faster frame rates with my GT, yes, but it's still the same old gaming experience!

I'd be hanging on for a new GTS or the next thing round the corner.

Agreed the bfg oc is currently £160 new even though not in stock in around a month i would say you'll be seeing vanilla cards for £130 new so your going to take a big loss in a short time on the GT.

To the OP if your happy with the performance your gts is giving atm i would stick with it and wait for a real big performance jump maybe the 8800gx2 or 3870x2 when they come. The 3870x2 is rumoured to give 21000 in 3dmark06 so hopefully game performance should be really good also.
