ATI Crysis hotfix

Hey, cool. This hotfix gave me a 2FPS increase in Lightsmark.

X1650 Pro from 35 to 37FPS average. :p

Edit:

I can also now increase shaders, particles and physics from 'low' up to 'medium' with a very minimal loss in frame rate at 1024x768. Not too bad for a craptacular graphics card me thinks, this being in Crysis.

Hmm do I have to keep the CCC on to gain on this hotfix?. I've not got Crysis installed just now so I can't test. I've never used the CCC either.

Edit: Nevermind, I seen the option in "advanced" whilst installing to take out CCC. :o

Think ive found the best brightness, contrast, gamma settings for those who want to try it, makes the night and forest areas come to life.

In vista go to C:\Users\Your Username\Documents\My Games\Crysis\game.cfg

and change the original lines in game.cfg to:

See post with screenies below.

These do seem to be an improvement.

One odd thing though, when playing on XPx64 1280x1024 all settings except physics and shadows set to high, they're on medium. I can be getting 40+FPS in an area, stick on x2 AA and it goes down to about 4fps !!

OK I was doing it mid game but it can't be that broken can it?

Do need to play with the settings a bit more though. But I can't believe how long I've waited for this game and I've hardly touched it :(

I think instead of starting on the highest settings and clocking them down until playable I should have started on the lowest and clocked them up until unplayable. As now I've seen it maxxed on DX10 I know what I'm missing. :(

There is a sizeable hit with 4x AA, maybe not to that effect but it definitely will be around 10-20fps i believe. I prefer to use r_useedgeaa 2 as it gets rid of all the jaggies on foilage and vegetation and makes them appear fuller for no change in fps.

x4 I could understand but I'm talking about going from 40+fps with no AA to single digits with x2 AA.

Maybe I just picked a bad spot to change it and shouldn't have done it mid game. I'll try again tomorrow setting the settings first and playing the same bit from a fresh load.

I'll give that edge aa setting a go though, cheers.

O sorry for some reason I thought you went to 4xaa it must be a bug as 40fps to 4fps shouldnt happen regardless.

didn't see any difference, though i was getting even less fps and more laggy corners in Crysis, so I went back to old 11 oct. Drivers :/

I definately got a performance increase - now running very high/high at 25+fps with shadows on high and shaders on medium, post processing on medium 2xAA

looks stunning ;D

Running at 1280x1024 0xaa All High (Along with the Cheap Very high hack from tweakguides except r_usepom=0) and settings below

r_Gamma = 0.89
r_Brightness = 0.43
r_Contrast = 0.58
r_useedgeaa=2

Averaging around 30fps with these drivers :).

Stunning game.

I fixed it, I uninstalled the device in the device manager (the card's drivers itself) and told it to delete them, then installed the drivers before i restarted, else it would install vista basic drivers for it which also cause the problem. Basically, no drivers must be install for it. Took me a while.

Good tip, but I've just tried this and Vista keeps auto installing a driver as soon as I run the installer. :o

edit: if you install to a different folder (eg C:/ATI2/ ); it works. :cool:

oh nice will keep that in mind for when the 7.11's (?) come out.

Assuming that's the next drivers.

yep, they'll go up to 7.12, then January next year will be the 8.1's.

Would it be possible for you to make an account here, and tell them of your install problems, please ? The more people that report it, the faster it will get fixed.

Would be nice if somewhere'd done a 'before and after' style benchmark for these new drivers which seem to have worked some kind of amazing magic...
