hey, i tried putting this thread on the memory section but wasnt getting any answers so i thought i would try my luck here, i am considering altering my order tomorrow because i am unsure whether this ram will be good enough;

i am considering changing to this;

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-086-OC

i am placing the ram on a asus p5k mobo and planning to overclock a e2180 to 3ghz upwards, i am a noob to overclocking and so am not sure how ram effects it, any advice is appreciated. (i will be using the pc for gaming)

you've just linked to the OCUK homepage btw.

if this is the same as the one in the memory thread, then it will probly get deleted.

its been edited lol, second time i have done that

:( really? lame i wasnt getting a answers there and i need some help choosing so that i know whether to change my order tomorrow or not

well both of those osz sets are fine, if you want to overclock more then the 6400 stuff will be better, but if not then the 5300 stuff will be fine.

well i know that you have to raise the fsb in the bios and the formula is the fsb X the multiplier to get your clock speed. And that you have to up the vcore inorder to get a higher fsb i think its somthing along those lines, right? i am not sure how ram comes into it though?

well basicaly the ram speed is double the FSB, if the memory divider is set at 1:1.

you obviously can't run it below 1:1, so past that point you have to raise the RAM speed inline with the FSB

ok i dont think i understand it propaly is it basically along the lines of, because i want my cpu to run at 3.2ghz i need to raise the fsb to 320 (because the e2180 has a 10x multiplier)? and because of this the ram will now run at 640mhz if the ratio is 1:1? (do you double the speed because its ddr2?)

yep that's correct basically, except intel cpu's are quad pumped so it's a bit more complex

the memory isn't actually running twice the speed of the FSB it's actually speed is the same, i wont go into detail as it doesn't really matter and its complex

bed beckons, i'll answer anymore of your questions tomorow mate.
