It was fun taking mine to new years in central london a couple of years ago - there were people with standard red ones and mine just ate them alive

It was nicely visible through all the smoke from the fireworks !

anyone know why they dont power laser pens off AA batteries instead of AAA. They would either be higher powered or last longer with AA surely.

well if that is true about 5mW being class 3B, then obviously they aren't illegal as they are readily available in a lot of shops!

So how come you can buy 200mw lasers and higher? Surely its just like a website selling drugs, firearms and anything else illegal?

but yes, i can see why they are illegal in the wrong hands. Football matches in other fans eyes for example.

edit. you can see the beam so theres no point in shining anywhere you dont want ot be seen anyway

you can buy lots of things on the internet that are illegal to own - lasers over 5mW are one of them.
