Hi,
I thinking aobut buying HD cables for my 360. Does it matter if the calbes are Official cables for the 360 or not?

Any advice?

Personally I'd say yes. I've had both non-official and official VGA cables and have mate down the road has official and non-official HD cables.

The official ones are definately a lot more sharper and vivid from what I've seen (VGA and HD)

For the Component cables - unsure as most people get these free with the premium package - so I don't know anyone who has bought a 3rd party one.

For the VGA cables - A LOT of people on this forum have had problems with the non official version.

For the HDMI cable - Should make no difference as long as it is a HDMI cable due to it being digital whereas the above 2 are analogue connections.

I bought a non-official VGA cable for about £10 from a well known auction site. I had very bad ghosting on the screen and it was a terrible picture. Bought an official one for about £20, had no trouble at all and the picture is perfect. Wasted £10 figuring that out, but for extra the official one costs at least you know that it's going to be a great cable and you won't have trouble.

Hmm had an official VGA cable before, whether it was worth £19.99 I have no idea. Not many people will be able to have an official/non official side by side, normally one or the other.

Have just a normal cheap HDMI cable and it's fine from what I can tell.

Do have an official play and charge kit on order though.

Why not contact them directly? You'll end up getting a suspension for mentioning a competitor as well if your not careful....

I can't see a problem with the un-official VGA cable I use on my 32" TV.

I have to use this as I can't get my blooming TV to recognise component anymore :(

I was the same mate. First one I bought was a MadCatz VGA and for months thought it was absolutely fantastic.

It was only when I damaged it and had to buy a new one, the official, that I noticed just how much of a difference there was.

I've never experienced ghosting like some have, but comparing the two, the official one was definately sharper and blacks were blacks (rather than slate gray) and whites were Daz White rather than, say, #EEEEEE

Nokkon mentioned at the LAN that my box on the official xbox vga cable looked better than the unofficial cable picture.

Yep. I went for some gold plated ones back during the 360's launch because the official MS ones were impossible to obtain. I can't remember what make my third party ones were (not madcatz), but they had better build quality than the MS ones. So for a year I used these, and then talk started hitting forums that the MS one had a better picture.

Much to my surprise, it did. I bought one off the MM, and was knocked sideways. Text was sharp and colours looked a lot better. I've no idea why there's a difference but the MS one is the best one.

Went for a 3rd party component cable due to buying the core over the premium when they were in short supply and the colour was just awful, it was like somebody had turned the brightness right down so everything was really dark.

I'll put it this way the reds looked like browns, blues were purples etc eventually forked out for the official VGA and havent looked back since - even the colours are better then the official component, but that is due to a setting on my TV and not the VGA cable.

Can confirm the official one does have better colours, component i couldnt notice any difference at all tbh but it may be because i am going via an Onkyo 505SE rather than direct (using component as the tv lets you play with more settings to get a better picture)

I bought a HDMI cable from a type of spicy food :p, looks rather good from my end. Digital signal is digital signal when it comes to HDMI.

Not always! The longer the cable the more important the quality.

Also if you buy a cheap cable they can be poorly shielded and open to interference.
