Need a couple of new tyres and really want those new Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric as currect Bridgestone 040 are poor.

Only problem is I can't find them in the right size anywhere even though they are on the website.
Car is on 255/35/18 and all I can find is 245/40/18, or 265/35/18.

Is it ok to go out by a small margin, and if so am I better going for the wider one, or for the slighly smaller with higher profile to allow for a little stretch?

Thanks!

Have a look here

It will tell you what effect the tyre size will have on your speedo readings.

What car are they going on? I'm thinking of buying Falken FK452's. A lot of the Cerby chaps on Pistonheads think they're pretty good. I had them on a Jag before and they were very good.

Not too bothered about the resulting diameter, I was just wondering if its ok to put a different width on there?

Might look into the Falkens they are a lot cheaper, but don't really mind spending on tyres for the best as I don't do too many miles.

It's for a BMW 330i.

Neither of these sizes are really that desireable. The 330i has wider rears for a reason so reducing the size is undesireable.

Not to keen on changing the size now, may have to go for the Falkens, or the Bridgstone 050a as they are supposed to be better than the 040 on a previous thread.

Been waiting a few weeks to see if the new Goodyears came into stock anywhere but they dont seem to be, may email the online tyres shops.

you should be concerned about the outer diameter because it will screw around with the DSC etc..

BMW offer different size alloys for most of their ranges. To my knowledge they don't go around adjusting the DSC settings to suit a 19" alloy over an 18" alloy, so chances are, it probably wont affect it.

For all intents and purposes, 255/35 R18 is practically the same as 245/40 R18 anyway in terms of dia. It will certainly offer a slightly more comfortable rear ride quality, but i'd be worried about reducing the width of the rear tyre, especially with winter setting in, etc, etc

give falkens a go, superb grip, good tread pattern but a little soft
not many people like the 050s a lot do change from them...
oh and if its a bmw keep it 255 35 18 i wouldnt bother changing!
