Hi guys,

Has anyone ever driven or come across this car? Its caught my attention a little due to its relatively low price (11k or so) for a car built in 2003 or so. The specifications appear to be massive.

Any thoughts?

Cheers.

Widely regarded as too soft and nowhere near as good as the M5, higher end Sport 5 Series, S6 etc when new, so slated.

However, £11k for a reasonable mileage 03 plate means it's now lots cheaper. I'd still rather have a 540i Sport but it's nowhere near the white elephant it was when new.

Kinda go along with what Fox said, though you'd be pushed to find a decent 540i on a 2003 plate for £11k. Not into the M5/RS6 territory that it was supposedly going after and consequently didn't sell massively well. Not as well known so they are cheap compared.

Certainly a whole load of car for the money - something a bit different as well.

Hmmm, cheers for the input. Its a shame they arent more common otherwise Id take a test drive. Im guessing theyre going to be expensive too if anything goes kaput.

Im guessing it has more torque being turbocharged, standard is has 300ft/lb, probably approaching 350 with the engine tweaking. I wonder how much it costs.

Whats BSR? Some form of engine tweaking?

BSR are a swedish tuning company that design remaps (and other products) for, initially, the swedish based motors (Saab/Volvo). Nowadays, they have branched out to VAG and some Ford models.

They use a PPC style remap, so you can switch the map on, and if you wish to return to a factory tune, you can reload your original map. You can swap maps as often as you like.

I had one on my Saab, 210bhp > 247bhp in a couple of minutes.

Wow, you can tune turbo cars to be faster than a stock M3? Thats amazing and fresh news.

Well obviously. It is however cheaper than an M3, and way more sleeperish to average Joe.

I looked at these as a possible replacement to my Astra 1.4, but was put off by ridiculous fuel economy and other running costs. They appear no less dull than a Saab 9-3 though, which is not a good thing IMO.
