Anyone know if 2 of these in sli will out perform a standard 8800 GTX. My GTX is struggling in Crysis at native resolution of 1680 x 1200 on high settings. CPU = C2D E6700 @ 2.9 ghz (motherboard - P5N32 SLI SE DELUXE - is a flakey overclocker and can't get it stable above this).

I have a Thermalright HR-03 cooler and 120 fan on the GTX which prevents me from using the second PCI-E slot for dual GTX graphics. Just wondering what sort of performance could I expect from 2 GT's. Is Crysis even optimised for SLI? Also curious what sort score (bragging rights only - or not as case my be) could one expect from 2 GT's in 3d Mark 06. Currently getting 11,300 with GTX and the aforementioned CPU clock.

Thanks in advance :D

2 GT's will outperform a GTX, some people say by 50% or so but obviously were a game does not support SLi you'll only get the power of 1 card.

Sometimes you get less than the power of one card if the game is badly coded for SLi.

Any examples? I'm sure that would basically mean that SLi just does not work in that game? I mean no point using SLi in that game if it will give you less than the performance of one card.

Can't remember off the top of my head, been a while since I was running SLi'd 7800GT's.

I seem to remember that pre-patch Test Drive Unlimited was worse with SLi turned on than with SLi disabled.

Uh TDU, awfully buggy game I am not surprised tbh.

I have 2 bfg 8800gt sli and am running crysis on high settings with
2 x aa at 1680x1050 and it runs very well the game isnt fully optimised yet there is supposed to be a patch released soon for this.

some screenshots of crysis taken with fraps

My 2 gt in sli at stock in 3dmark06 scored 14000+ with my e6600 c2d at 3.2.

pity you cant get more speed from you cpu it would help.

TDU is an awfully coded game, i cant play it and im now sick of it becuase it constantly crashes. games like that dont deserved to be played.

Some nice responses here guys and like the screenies also.

I have a quad Q6600 GO waiting to be installed. Just purchased the ABIT IP35Pro to go with it (obviously taking away the SLI option) but haven't squared any of these purchases with the 'minister of home affairs' so not sure if this build will ever take place :D

. The thinking here is that if I can clock the Quad to 3 gig and keep the GTX, I just might be able to play it on high at native res. Disappointing review of the ABIT IP35 Pro in Custom PC this month mind - wish I had stuck with one of the top end Asus boards now

Another question re the sli option mentioned: Will my Enermax Infiniti 620 Watt PSU be sufficient to provide stable power to 2 of these cards if this turns out to be the chosen option?

Thanks for your views guys :)

I'm not too happy with my current setup, was generally ok till i upgraded my monitor to a native 1680x1050 model. I was previously gaming at a native res of 1280x1024 (ie: less work for GPU)

So been toying with the idea of either getting a second GTS or sell the GTS (going for a good price on a certain auction site) and buy 2 x GT's. But i'm worried about any game's that may not do SLi very well, leaving all the work to 1 GT card, which would mean only a slight increase over my GTS setup.

I'm now more tempted to buy an 8800 Ultra, although there hasn't been any mention of any future updated versions of the Ultra, has there? Then at least i would have 1 decent card if a any games are allergic to SLi.

Then maybe in a few months time buy a second Ultra, an SLi mobo and new PSU if required.

If you had an SLI mobo already then I'd not hesitate to recommend SLI, it's compatible with anything worth playing, (the odd console port aside) and it's the best way to get vastly improved framerates in games (with the eye candy turned up)...BUT in your case you'd have to swap your P35 out and as such I'd wait for the 780/790i boards to make retail as the 680i is nearing EOL, (January I believe).

I'm probably going to dump my 2 x GTS 320MB cards. I find they aren't performing enough. I also find SLi quite useless for most games and I never know if SLI is truely working. I get 14300 in 3D Mark 06 for a Q6600@ 2.88Ghz and cards at 590/900. In crysis though I am playing at 1280x1024 High no AA and its running smooth enough to play but an extra 5/8 FPS would make it that little bit more nicer to play. If I dump these two cards, although I said SLI IMO isn't worth it at all, I still think I would go for 2 GT's in SLI as the price is quite tempting and single card alone performs very well. I guess 2 would help in some games alright but I'm not totally bought over by SLI, at all!

Meh, I wouldn't bother. I've just bought a 2nd GTS, and I'm pretty disappointed to say the least. The extra heat, noise, bugs and lack of performance wasn't worth the outlay. I'll be sticking both on a certain auction site in the not-too-distant, and will be shelling out for a G92 if released on 3/12.

Shame you cant play it, when it works its a good game for about 20 mins now and again, having a blast round the island, I get in me lambo and stick the navigation on and drive like a normal person even stopping at traffic lights, its fun :D.

I know, i bought myself a Lamborghini Murcielago, was great to drive but then game started to crash, so i just gave up.

CPU = C2D E6700 @ 2.9 ghz (motherboard - P5N32 SLI SE DELUXE - is a flakey overclocker and can't get it stable above this).

Hmm, agreed they're not the best boards out there and the stock cooling solution is pap. However, I've had my P5N32-SLI and E6600 up to 3.45 during testing and I'm at 3.2 (well 3195mhz if being fussy) 24/7. 355x9 @ 1.35v, Ram 1:1 at 710mhz. So you might be lucky yet - what settings are you at?

The only thing I have done is stuck an Antec CoolSpot fan over the NB heatsink, I'm toying with the mosfet blowers that come with the Striker Extreme as they're available from a certain auction site for not much bucks. However they might impede airflow leaving the HSF/going into the PSU. Might explain why they say "only for use with watercooling solutions"

Can't remember the exact settings as its been a while since I played with the clocking. I do recall I'm on the original 0204 bios and I know there has been some revisions since - though not sure what these revisions would bring to overclocking. I found with my board that it doesn't like voltage at all. I recall it wouldn't even POST with more than 1.38/9 applied to vcore. My cooling should be ok as I have a Tuniq Tower installed.

I assume you managed 3.2 on a later bios and with standard multiplier? Anyways, this is going slightly off topic but I would be interested to know your set up given the overclocks you've achieved. ;)

whats so good about it? You asimless drive around, looks very boring to me. But then again i think ms flight sim is the most boring game ive ever played..

Its good for people who like driving, its fun to drive around the island like a loonie and there is lots of races to do, I loved me lambo, clocked over 2500 miles in it :p
