The Benifits of Decent Cooling on a 8800GT (Accelero S1)

Just stuck a Thermaltake DuORB on my GT. Getting it ready for another PC. It now idle/loads @ 36/53C. Knocked about 30C of the load temps of the standard cooler (80-83C@70%). Ambient 23C

Stock TIM was awful btw. Doubt its in the same league as the S1, but its a lot smaller, which is what I needed.

if you put that pc together in your sig then its hardly going to be any sort of challenge to fit a aftermarket cooler to a gfx card.

I didnt' put that pc together :D

I went to my pc shop, I told them everythign I wanted, they installed it all. They also installed windows for me. all for 25£, which isnt bad imo.

@ fornowagain

that looks nice, how loud is that though? 2 fans on one cooler.

Surprisingly not at all, can't hear it compared to the case fan.

I wouldn't take much notice of the load temps from ATiTool. the Ozone3d benchmark gets a lot hotter.

Same settings as OP. 44C Load. (22C Ambient)

Havent found the max overclock yet, but

760/1890/2160

16091

SM 2.0 Score 6713
SM 3.0 Score 6331
CPU Score 5990

very nice. I think I might buy it. I liked all the ram coolers that come with it also, plus the blue lights will look nice next to my antec lights.

though they don't sell the card on overclockers or its competitors :(

Edit; I checked thermal takes site, and the "where to buy" subsection, and one of the stores is overclockers, but they don't seem to sell it. I checked the other stores on the list, and none of them have it. Its like this cooler can't be bought in the UK :S

I've ordered myself the S1 should be arriving on tuesday.

Just wondering how hard is the stock cooler to get off, especially on the GPU? I've never fitted anything like this before so im hoping its not too difficult.

Also I will take some pics and post them up so you can all see how easy/hard it was to do :)

Cheers

Hayley

got my S1 here and also some thermal pads etc for fitting tomorrow hopefully. I will write a small guide up when i get a chance to fit it tommorrow. Will keep people posted.

right people here is my guide and pictures for fitting of my S1 cooler.

Started with the following.
1x S1 cooler
1 lot of Thermal Adhesive tape

Remove all the backing screws from the card and lifted off the stock cooler - this is where the poor thermal tape and covering of the ram sinks etc comes to be seen.

Very very poorly put together in terms of covering the ram sinks etc. Cleaned off the gunk from the ram sinks etc and put a small piece of thermal pad on each of the 8 ram sinks. Then place the ram sinks on applying a reasonable amount of pressure.

Then attached the S1 and the 4 screws. Left the preapplied paste on the S1 as it's decent stuff. Tighten all the screws gently and attached small plastic clips as per instructions.

Then she is complete.

I did not cover the voltage regulators with anything as nothing in the S1 package fitted.

I have also attached a 120mm fan to the cooler using some cable ties for the time being.

Reseated the gfx card and all is good.

Testing time.

Mine was idle in windows at 63 degrees with stock cooler (all temps from Nvidia monitor) and when gaming COD4 etc - hit 90 degrees when on automatic control.

Fitted all new S1 and 120mm fan, i have not yet connected the 120mm fan up and it's idling in windows at 46 degrees (without fan on and totally silent) - thats 15 degrees less without the 120mm fan connected.

Fan now attached and running @ 12v - almost silent - and dropping and steadying @ 36 degrees idle in windows

Will run some test in COD4 etc and get back with no fan temps when gaming and fan temps when gaming.

Nice guide booyaka, doesnt look too tricky :D

Im sat at home waiting for City Link to arrive with my S1. He usually comes at 8.30 but I think it got put on the afternoon delivery :( I was playing crysis earlier and the stock fan is so noisy, so from what everyone has said I will be getting a nice quiet PC back.

indeed - quick test run of COD4 online and again amazing results - 20mins play or so.

Without the 120mm fan running and again all at stock 600/1800 max's around 62 degrees and when i put the 120mm connected - 41 degrees max!!!!

stunning stuff for a £12 cooler!! very very impressed.

Thanks Booyaka! i'll be doing this at the weekend. I haven't worried about checking temps since i know they're high. I actually feel the heat in my room more! Since the PC and Monitor are in the very corner, and have shelves above, so the heat bounces all over the place :P

What about casetemp?

I have almost no case airflow as I have my radiator external so I am a bit hesitant to buy this one myself.
