256MB 8800GT Available 20/11

it didnt physically blow up, but the card fried from the voltage change

ive done it loads of times with the 7600GTs though, i just write each stage down on some paper and dont rush the flash

If the floppy cable is put on the wrong way the floppy light will stay on.

Make sure you do a full format on the floppy before writing to it. A quick format will only erase the FAT. Floppies are very prone to alignment errors.

How do I check for errors after?

If you do a full format in the floppy drive that you will be using it should be OK.

Its a bit like CD's that are burnt on one machine and work ok but on other machines you can have problems reading. Mechanical alignment of the R/W head will vary between drives.

I don't use floppies myself I use a DOS bootable USB stick.

Gonna flash mine in a bit, hopefully I'll be alright. Gonna use a CD to do it, if that doesn't let me flash like last time I'll use a pen drive.

I want to use a CD but I cant find how to make a bootable CD without making a bootable floppy and I dont want to put the floppy disk drive in again.

I downloaded the modded bios with 1.1v core from xtremesystems, got my backup bios, got NVFlash 5.50, just need a bootable CD Rom now.

Nero does it, very easy too!

Latest I guess, I think most do it. Just under the CD section choose boot-cd and use the floppy image in the Nero folder.

Nice.

then after that copy the 2 nVflash files CD and my Bios file and backup bios file then not down the lines for flashing with the backup and modded one?

I think I might have to make 2 bootable CD's, one of them for in the emergency case of a flash gone bad wereit automatically flases making it easier with no screen on.

Do people still play at 1280x1024 and below res? I would not be surprised if the 8800GT 256mb struggles at 1280x1024 in a few games at 1280x1024, maybe crysis?

Yes, not everybody can afford more than a 19'' screen, some people are jobless you know, especially 16 yr old teenagers like me.

Also the majority of people have 1280x1024 or 1440x960 ( or whatever ) still it's mainly enthousiasts or proffesionals that use bigger resolutions ( read res as: screens).

Do agree though 256 mb is bit too little, CoD 4 for me definatly shows texture lag ( drop to 1-10 fps when turning around for a half a sec then back to 40+ again half a sec later) when I turn em on high or extra, while being smooth on medium.

Still, imo it's way overpriced, for that price I can get the 512 mb from my supplyers and even additionally get 19% VAT back from my dad by letting him declare it for his ahem ''company pc'' ...
When will the UK shops price these things properly, instead of making huge profits?

Dont ya get EMA? I have a 22" screen and I'm jobless.

i doubt they do in the Netherlands :p

you flashed that bios yet?

Oh, I just noticed he aint in the UK lol :P

Not yet, I'm having a hell of a time trying to make a bootable CD.

As far as I know all I put on the bootable CD is:

cwsdpmi.exe, nvFLASH.exe and the Bios file. But it says illigal operation or something so wont burn, in Vista using Nero7, that could be why.

One of my mates in the UK who is jobless can barley afford to get an athlon x2 system 1950pro etc with a 19'' CRT, never mind more expensive tft's and a faster pc, He's 23 or 24 I believe.

What's EMA?
I won't get any money anyhow till I'm 21 and jobless, till then my parents are responcible for me financially and I dont get a cent :(.
But by the time I'm 21 I'll prolly get a job.
