Having ordered a book last night from -

http://www.eruditor.com/

I'm in some doubt about it's legitimacy. I checked the status of my order this morning and it says:

dispatching expected 2007-12-07

When I placed the order I was under the knowledge that the book was in stock and would take between 2 and 5 days for it to arrive.

After reading the 'About us' section, something doesn't seem right.

About Us

In eruditor.com we have decided to return to the roots. Our e-shop works automatically, almost as was expected in the mid nineties. There is no stock, no help, no customer support (except for claims),no limited bargains but the lowest prices possible of everything for everybody everyday.

They don't provide a contact number, but I found an address which I Googled and found a few different companies using. :o

ah, this thread is like a live news story. keep us posted! :D

edit: LOL my smiley face has a hat!!!

The reason for the 'there is no stock' part, AND the long wait time, might be because this place look like they're dropshipping. It's completely legitimate but I should imagine it's slower.

Sorry, could you explain what 'drop shipping' is please? I am unfamiliar with the term.

"Drop shipment or drop shipping is a type of retailing where the retailer does not keep goods in stock, but instead passes the customer's order and shipment details to the wholesaler, who then dispatches the goods to the customer directly. The retailer makes their profit on the difference between the wholesale and retail price."

simple, but as said slower, depends if the wholesaler is in the UK or not i guess.

It's the same way I resell Crucial memory.
I sell "virtual" stock at EBay at a little below the going rate.
As soon as I know it will sell I then order some in at my "Frequent User" price and then send it on to my buyer.

The book store looks like they hold no stock of anything, as you place an order they place an order direct with the distributor and arrange for it to be shipped directly to you or the book store will ship it as soon as they get it.

It's a lot safer for the store as they don't have stock laying around that could potentially cost money.
However as said above it will be slower, however if they offer you a rock bottom price you need to decide what you want.
Great price and get it when you can or probably not so great price but get it in a couple of days...
