Hi,

I'm looking to get a Sat Nav for xmas from my folks. I've been told the TomTom One is a good budget unit, however as I don't expect to use it that reguarly I'm wondering if I should save my folks some money and ask for the Sony Unit instead as it's around £50 less.

So basically has anyone out there used the Sony and was massively dissapointed with it and wished they had bought the TomTom instead because it has some great feature they couldn't live without etc etc ?

All i'm really interested in is that it's not dog slow and that it has a reasonble level of map detail.

Sony NV-U52
TomTom One UK

Thanks
Mark

Despite "vintage" looks, Tomtom is a better choice of the two for few simple reasons - there are more third party, replacement and aftermarket bits available for it - whether you break your mount, want to upgrade maps, loose a cable or simply want to add functionality you will find parts and software everywhere. Sony NV units , as cheap and chearful looking as they are have very small following, almost no third party tools and relatively small user base to advise you in case of any problems.

Sell Sony ones at work. Big screens and slim but thats all thats good about them.

They literally just dont work. They wont connect properly to any PC for updating etc. A product rushed by sony just so they could enter the rapidly expanding market. avoid like the plague. buy tomtom or garmin
