When there will be available more powerful cards?

Why design, and for that matter buy, a game that is geared to make use of furture hardware? It is utter nonsense.

How many people will still be playing Crysis in two years time? Once in a very long while you'll get a game that has lasting appeal (like TFC or CS and their appeal was for different reasons) but they are getting fewer and farther between as people gobble up the pretty new graphics, get bored of another nice tree and then move on.

It's not made for future hardware...They said that future hardware could make the game even better, and enable features that are not there in the games initial release.

Im running Crysis with the hacked very high settings on XP, im getting solid 30 frames and the game looks awseome and runs really smooth. My monitor runs at 1440*900 which is small by todays standards so I think thats in my favour.

Yep same as above, steady frame rate and looks good so cant complain here, although must agree with the fps not been anywhere near what was promised...

Same as guys above, playing crysis at 1900x1200 and game runs perfectly, hasn't stuttered once yet. Really don't see how people with similar systems to mine are struggling to run it.

System:

Q6600 G0 @ 3.4ghz
8800 GTX
2GB 8500 ram

You aint got that RES with all settings to Very High or even High, unless you think 10-20FPS is playable.;)

Edit: Also you dont state if thats Vista 32bit or 64bit and in DX9C Mode or Dx10 Mode.

The game ain't gonna look much better on new cards than it does now, I mean unless they have a serious bump in image quality all you will gain is some AA and that's it, Very High looks worse than High with a modded config as it is.

Even having AA on isn't gonna make a huge difference, not if you're using EdgeAA already that is.

Granted though would be nice to have higher FPS but the current cards can manage it at a playable rate.

Just checked my settings, its running with everything at High, and i'm using XP 32 bit

people complaining about crysis being unplayable on max settings are stupid imo. If crysis was released with the very highest settings removed, no1 would complain, as the top settings would be more playable, then 2 years down the line they could have released an expansion that updates the engine with the ultra settings. Thats what they could have done, instead the dev team worked hard to implement those future settings NOW, so that players are not waiting on the devs to update the graphics, its up to the hardware developers to update the hardware.

Stop expecting games companys to just think about making a game for NOW! They have to make the game good for the future, and crysis has done that by implementing graphics that will be playable/better in the future.

Perhaps they are just showing us what the engine can do and what is needed to run it, Ive played and finished crysis (running it mostly on high average FPS under 10) they have left it wide open for a sequal which coul probably come out in a year or two when everyone has the hardware to play it properly.
Honest opinion I think crytek are just showing off the engine so that everyone would whant to licence it and make lots and lots of monies

it seem like u guys must play games on max settings and if u can't play the game at max settings u think the game isn't working right or its crap... some games don't need the highest setting to be enjoyed .

Its a about having everything that the game as to offer & cutting back on the gfx is cutting back some part of the game.
Maxed out sound/gfx/MaximumFun
And then your not missing out on anything that the coders put in.

Is it really?

Do you really notice the finer details of any game when your blasting away through the levels. Would you really not enjoy a game because the grass doesn't blow correctly in the wind, for example. Does having maximum setting really stop one from enjoying its content? I doubt anyone sits back and admires the textures, lighting shadding as they're being shot at. After the initial wow, most of us are so immersed into the game we wouldn't notice any difference between a DX9 and DX10 game let alone the uber settings.

Artistic possibilities are infinite. Assuming the designers come up with new tricks and changes throughout the game, then *yes* the graphics improve my enjoyment of a game immeasurably.

My 7900GTX can handle most settings on high in single player but on multiplayer it gets its ass kicked very badly.

There is nothing wrong with not playing at full graphics, but I would like it to look better than farcry and in this low res and all medium settings it really doesn't.

Im willing to bet most people dont play games on maximum settings, out of all the ppl I have on xfire and people I play with online they either dont have 22"/24" monitors or/and cant turn over 1/2 the things up to maximum.

Most ppl wont have the 8800GT yet if there going to bother and how many ppl do you think brought the £350 GTX required to play the games that have been released this year.

Yes i really do notice the finer details on my 30" 2560x1600
Yes i would still enjoy the game with out the grass blowing but would enjoy a better experience with the grass blowing, more convincing environment more immersion.
i didn't say anything about DX10 V DX9 nore do i care but you must take into account that DX10 has not been around as long as DX9 & don't tell me that DX9 games now don't look no better on avg than DX9 games the first year DX9 came out.

I think in a week or two theres a crysis patch and they said their priotity was getting SLI done.

I agree with Final8y in that better graphics make it more realistic and immerse you more, I played CoD4 and just before I got my new monitor and im saving arcade mode and Crysis untill I know it will run smoothly.
