Basically i need to know what the best LCD TV that projects native 480p which looks decent, which size screen will i be looking at.

Around a £500 mark budget future proof for HD, good for telly, but mainly to get a real good picture quality on the wii, i really don't want anything smaller than 24" and no bigger than 32" as i know Wii would look terrible on a size larger.

All help is appreciated :p

Thanx :D

Peter

If your looking at a 26" consider the Sony 26T3000, I got it a few weeks ago £430 and the Wii looks pretty good on it. Super Mario Galaxy especially almost looks as if it's running on the TV's native resoultion.

You wont get a native res at 480P on LCD, you just need a TV with a good upscaler.

Samsung 32" R7 series has a very good upscaler and processing for consoles, the Wii looks great even via composite to the point of me not bothering with a component cable. The new R8 series should be just as good.

theres people happy with the Wii on 42" plasmas, I think Nintendo use 40" at shows and they look stunning.

Is the 26U3000U a newer version?

Aye it is, not sure if it's out yet though. Sony say its available from November so it might well be.

Edit: comparing the specs it seems the T3000 is better anyway. It has a higher contrast (1500:1 over 800:1) and better viewing angles (178 over 160)

I can't see what the U3000 offers over the T3000 other than burning a bigger hole in your pocket.

You wont get good picture quality from the Wii regardless, so just get the 32".

Nice bit of misinformation there

The Wii suffers with jaggies yes, but it depends on what your expectations are, the quality of the picture on the Wii via composite is virtually the same as the Dreamcast on VGA on my Samsung. The colours are pretty much as vibrant as the 360, no colour bleeding.

Not misinformation at all, the Wii has poor graphics and thats a fact. Any decent (HD LCD) tv regardless of size is going to show this up. Who cares about vibrant colours when the graphics are terrible? The PS2 generally has better graphics and thats saying something in comparison to current consoles.

The bigger your TV, the bigger the pixels on your screen. 640x480 on a 1280x720 LCD is not only going to look stretched, but also extremely hideous! You will get drastic 'staircase' effects on your games. I use component on my HDTV and I still put it in bordered mode with 4:3 instead of fullscreen 16:9 even on games that support it - the Wii's graphics are an eyesore. I'm afraid that's what you get when you play inappropriate media on high definition sets.

My Wii looks abysmal via RGB scart on my 50" HD DLP :(

My DVD player looks better in s-video than scart RGB, you cant trust every input, my sky box via scart RGB is probably the worse connection on my TV, composite Wii and DV cam are far better.
I wonder how Nintendo are getting good quality on their Panasonic screens at shows?

Check out some comments on the American AV forums for big screens and Wii's, there really doesnt seem to be a problem.
Anyone whos concerned just take a Wii to a good TV shop and find the best TV for 480P.

Before you go off on one, the issue here was *picture quality* not graphical power and the PS2 is the worse of all the last gen consoles on an LCD.

Which graphical effects are terrible compared to the PS2? lighting, shading, fill rates, pop ups ? Can you be more specific?

Funny how people such as yourself confuse opinion with "fact".

As said above, the Wii just doesnt output a decent enough resolution, so pretty much any HD LCD you put it onto its going to show up the deficiencies, some may be better than others but the Wii is never going to look good and thats very dissapointing for a next gen console. I never expected amazing graphics from it because thats not what its about, but it really doesnt come up with anything. I was probably a bit over the top comparing the PS2 and the Wii may have some subtle advantages up its sleeve, but i would say the overall graphics were no better than whats on the PS2, particularly when viewed on a HD LCD.

On further reading, the PS2 can output a resolution of 1280x1024 whereas the Wii max is 640x480, so its hardly suprising it looks as good/better.

So you think the Wii graphics are good then? For a next gen console the graphics are poor.
*Remember we're talking about viewing on HD LCDs here.

I'm not trying to bash the Wii, but having owned one, its a below par "next gen" system, Its a good job it has the Wiimote!

The picture quality was the issue here, you seem to be confused.

Think of the discussions and reviews on websites about the screen quality of the PSP, or the two Nintendo DSs or the new ASUS Eee PC, Ipods etc, each of those devices needs to have good quality video components and be matched to a good screen, graphical quality doesnt usually come into it as people know what they are getting, but there are cheaper devices with poor video outs.

As I said before the Wii does have jaggies on an LCD, but so does the PS2, Xbox, Dreamcast etc, but that doesnt stop it having good reflections and transparancies in games, or affect how fluid the game runs.
The Wii is generally considered to be on par with the first Xbox power wise, and at the moment it is not being pushed to near its limit like the PS2 is.
The PS2 was aweful during its first year, graphical quality is now streets ahead of the first games.

Also note that Nintendo's own style of games are never designed to technically impress, so how you can say it is below par, when games like Wii Sports have been designed purposely with simple graphics is beyond me.
