The Witcher-Official Thread

Chiming in to say I am also totally addicted to this game after purchasing it on the strength of this thread. Best RPG I have played in a long time.

I can't even run the game full screen with the latest NV drivers. I've just had 10 CTD's inside an hour lol. Windowed mode @ 1440x900 is the only way right now.

What seriously annoys me is that you can't even jump in the game. It's not as freeform as I hoped but the quests & story make up for that. Right now the combat is getting frustrating, and I've wasted two hours because of two buggy quests. Ended up having to revert to an older savegame :/

You can't jump, can't go where you want (why the heck is everything locked?!)

The "plague" is essentially a great excuse to cut down the areas open to you, that is when they don't use a 2ft high stone wall to prevent you from getting where you want to go - god forbit your character can get his leg over a wench but not a wall.

Combat is iffy, I've been stuck in loops where my character simply won't hit anything, I've been stuck in the FLOOR during comabt so I can't move, can't hit and either reload or wait for some newbie mobs to beat me to death slowly. Personally the slow painful death is better than looking at another damn loading screen.

Utter frustation, story line, voice acting, graphics are ace but the mechanics of the game are blooming awful. Get these people together with those who did Oblivion and we'll have one of the best games ever released.

As it is, frankly it deserves a 60-70% rating. After 8 hours of playing it I'm thinking of sticking it in the bin.

lol :D Well as you know I rushed home like a gibbon to play one of the two (tf2 is the other) PC games that I have bought since I gave up on the platform, and I'm now reminded why I left in the first place.

I've been playing this from 18:00 to 22:30, and in all that time whilst playing I have achieved absolutely nothing - apart from accidently killing Vesna because of the dumbest combat system I've seen in an RPG, having to reload 10+ times just to stop her from being mauled by baskervilles, and being stuck to a fence twice.

I love the game as it is very promising but bugger me the design of certain elements is just daft. I mean I'm allowed to wade into a river but hit an invisible wall in the middle of it?

ARGHHHHH giv me mass effect now!

mass effect = Bioware massive company dev team etc
witcher = small polish dev team.

So of course there will be bugs. But maybe you're happier with a console rpg or something like Oblivion? You might find it easier.

It can be a bit depressing sometimes like being locked out of certain areas and as said earlier the combat system can stall sometimes and is hard to get to grips with when to click after it stalls, but when it does work its great, i will still play it to the end but i hope they fix the combat system.

Yep, I know about the dev team for the game and that they're new to all this, which is why I'm not going to slate the title because it has given me wonderful first impressions. However trying to progress any further than I am is a chore atm - and I'm more or less at the start having spent 3hrs trying to boink Vesna :o

Easier? The title would be a piece of cake if the game didn't crash every time I accessed a journal/inventory. Looking at their forums, there are scores of players with the same issues I'm in. They should have play tested the game heavily before lobbing it out to the public in this state, because I haven't seen such a buggy pc game since I played SiN. I'm a big Elder Scrolls fan, played Oblivion to the death. It's a superb game but I never liked the levelling system adopted for it.

Her death is just as valid an outcome. If you're really that desperate to see the boobies you can view the .bik files.

And yes the combat sticking bug is very frustrating.

There seems to be a fair amount of Witcher fan boys in this thread, it's not about "boinking", it's about playing the game and trying to get the outcome you want without being hindered by constant bugs, poor scripting, a character that can't even jump or step over small boulders and having the opportunity to guide the character as you'd like to.

As said before it's a fantastic story, but the way it's been implemented is sub-par and I for one feel very let down by it.

To be fair you couldn't jump in NWN2 or KOTOR 1 & 2 and I consider KOTOR to be one of the best games i've ever played. As for bugs I can't say i've seen too many maybe the odd CTD but only a couple of times in hours of play.

I too found Vesna dead after saving her once then the game Crashing before I had a chance to save the game. I was quite impressed that a ghoul had wandered up the group around her and slaughtered everyone. Definitely made the world seem more dynamic and not just running on rails all the time.

Need to know where all the Drowned dead are in Act two can't find em

In the swamp. Exit the Temple District through to the Dike and speak to the Ferryman; he will take you to the swamp.

By the end of that Act, you will be sick to death of running into the bloody things :/

just got it this morning, great game sofar but im alittle stuck on finding the wine for vesna at the old mil, any ideas where you get wine from
