Built a system for my dad but when he plays a dvd he has no sound?
The sound all seems switched on and realtek drivers ar installed and speaker connected.

When he plays a music file it's fine or anything on the hard drive it's just from the dvd deck.

I don't have a audio cable that connects from the motherboard to the dvd writer. Is there a way to get it to work?

He has a Abit KN9 motherboard.

Thank you

Try this (for XP):

1. Right click DVD drive in MyComputer, select properties
2. Select Hardware tab
3. Double left click the DVD drive in list
4. Select Properties tab
5. Check the "Enable digital CD audio for this device" checkbox

Was it checked?

Yeah it is checked i've tried it on and off.:(

what software are u playing the dvds with?

Cyberlink power dvd

Check the settings in power dvd if you haven't already, you don't need a seperate cable for DVD audio (it's all done via the ide/sata cable), so it's most likely a setting in the dvd playback software.

From memory power dvd allows for both analogue audio out and digital, so if your dad's speakers are analogue as opposed to digital (such as a home theatre setup) you will need to make sure the setting is on analogue for the app.

Thanks mate i'll check them when i go around his house today.

He's only got 2 small analogue speakers on his desktop. I wasn't sure if i needed a cable or not so thats for that too.

I'll report back later :)
