You need to do more than lapping looking at the first picture, shocking!

As above send the retailer a copy of the pictures as well, maybe Thermalright there could be a dad batch out there!

Finish is terrible agreed but i thought that they were meant to be slighty concaved by design?

Has been talked about in other threads.

Concave? Is that not convex?

Yep its convex, i had the same problem so i emailed thermalright and they said thats how its supposed to be - yea right

Took mine to a local metal worker/polisher who got it flat and the temps dropped by an extra few degrees.

Anandtech:
Thermalright designs do use the convex (bowed) base plate which has been shown to increase cooling by 2C to 3C and therefore increase overclocks.

How convex is anybody's guess or whether you go with concave or even flat is perhaps a question of luck or personal preference.

If I was the OP I wouldn't be very happy either.

I have the same cooler and I can tell you it isn't like that, there is no way its designed to be that much convex/concave! Looking at the first picture it seems as though its being angled & cut wrong.

Send them an email with the pictures you have taken and see what response you get??

Mine was the same as ops one but i just lapped it along with cpu.

Didnt do a before and after to compare though :( Think they designed it that way as most cpu ihs dip in middle.

I had one of those hsf's and it was exactly the same story, fired off an email to thermalright about it and of course got no reply. I think its pathetic you pay 40 odd quid for a heatsink and the tards that manufacture it can't even get the bottom flat despite their claims of haveing an eye on the quality of the bases of these.

Ended up lapping it..got fed up and binned it.

I posted this elsewhere and stand by it.:

TR are talking BS.

They cant make it concave very easy on purpose, and if they did it would be uniformed across all made.

It aint, some are concave, some are convex, all in different areas of base.

It is cause they solder the Pipes and it buckles the base, they should machine the base after Pipes are soldered.
