The Benifits of Decent Cooling on a 8800GT (Accelero S1)

Hmm I have spare sinks too, but don't know what/where the volt regulators are. Any chance someone could circle them or sumthing on the above pic?

Looking at where the thermal pad on the old heatsink is, I'm guessing it's the 2 larger squares ina vertical line just to the right of the ramsinks

Quick update I gave up on that idea as they were too big and got caught in the fins, then kept falling off. I just thought it would be a good idea as I had them spare!

Also I will get some pictures up for you all later to see.

Nice post booyaka.

which fan did you use for the s1?

had a spare Antec 900 case fan (blue led:p) one - very quiet. Going to knock up a switch (from an old case cathode thing) that i can put in the back of my case, so that i can just have it without the fan on in windows and then flick it on when gaming. Not that the noise is really an issue at all.

I just fitted an S1 to my 8800GT today too. Am VERY dissapointed at the bundled sticky memory heatsinks. I'd be better off with double sided sellotape!! I thought they'd be ok as long as they didn't get knocked, but right enough, they just fall off! :(

I don't know if I can be bothered getting some thermal tape now to put them on. Does the RAM on the card get that hot? (Esp when OC'd)

ok nice. I might buy one of those also.

Question, did you have trouble with the ram sinks considering they dont stick to the ram?

I had real problems with the ram sinks too, lukily I had some thermal tape hanging round and used that but still they didnt stay on. I'm wondering if I didn't clean up the ram well enough and thats why they don't stick. Im missing 2 atm as they fell off and I couldn't be bothered to take the cooler off and reapply them.

Just finninshed installing my S1 to the new card, was a peice of cake to fit. I had 8 small (half of an s1 ram sink) heatsinks so used them on the voltage regs, only just fit though.

Strapped a yate loon 120mm fan to the accelero, and have a 120mm fan sitting right next to the card in a hole in the side panel.

Windows idle 35c
3d mark 06 / COD4 under load 42c uber cool :D

3dmark06 score 11122 but havent had any time to play with it really, slapped it in at 700 and benched.

lol. thats exactly what happened to me. Hope they don't need them

Just hit 14721 3dmard06!

thats with 756/1836/2000

well happy with this

Getting silly now, with that HSF basically all other slots will be blocked. The S1 is big enough, in SLI/Crossfire you won't be able to fit fans underneath plus have soundcard + physics.

I've not read a bad review of the Duorb. Have to see how mine pans out noise wise, but if I get an aftermarket cooler for the GT, this is gonna be it.

also, why are the links **** ***** ?
The site is on the banned list I guess.

That side-on picture is different to the one on the thermaltake site:
Maybe an earlier version? The current one is much slimmer.
Just looking at the scale of it, I think its for a CPU and they've mixed the images. I have the slimmer one, cools my 8800GT to 800/2000/2200 without problem. Although it might still fit. Can't be a lot taller than an S1+fan or HR-03+fan. I'm sure someone will try ;), might need some scaffolding.

S1 and 2x 120mm fans, plus one large hole in the case side = 33 idle temp, and around 36 - 37 load temps at 756/1650/1998

Oh boy, I think you and fornowagain have just increased my PC build cost by the price of a Duorb!

I've been watching this thread closely, its been interesting seeing everyones results! So much so that I've placed an order for an S1 too, as everyone else is in limbo or wondering though, what is to be done with the voltage regulators?
