The industry I work in I had to have a 10 year background check and a lot of vetting. So that wouldn't be a problem. Like all security industries there's a generally accepted rule that you don't really go into too much detail of where you work or what you do.

As has already been said, you are not supposed to tell anyone that you are thinking of applying. As part of the vetting process MI# will contact practically everyone who knows you and interviews them about you. They will do online searches for any info on you as well.

But it is all done on MI#'s terms and each person interviewed is supposed to sign a none disclosure contract with them. Stops them gossiping about it to other people.

I used to know someone who worked for the MI6, or SIS as it is officially called. He worked at the HQ at Vauxhall Cross. He couldn't tell me what he did, but said that he wasn't a spy

He died a few years ago in a car crash
