This is true, but what hurt Gerrard is that he wasn't given the captaincy. He isn't given the freedom.

Liverpool rely on Stevie and he knows it, England don't though. He feeds from that energy.
 
I really do feel so sorry for Lampard and Gerrard. Its entirely unreasonable for people to expect club like performances when they lack the support in players around them.
 
I'm a fervant England supporter, but if England had got out of this and qualified it really would have been The Great Escape. They simply didn't deserve it.
All started with selecting McClaren as manger. He was chosen ahead of Hiddink and O'Neil WTF.:confused: To drop points against Israel, negative tactics, and Macedonia FFS. :rolleyes:
The bottom line is we couldn't get out of a group where the 2 other best sides in the group are average at best.

This could be the best thing for English football for years......a shake up at the FA needed.

Just heard Lampard was MOTM........says it all...............................:(

Can't disagree with that but it was still more than SWP, Cole or Lampard (all the others played the odd game). Early on in the campaign when he was out on the right he done well and unfortunately his performance vs Andorra saved McClown his job but like you say he was still very poor.
 
Wow, so not only does Mcclaren completely ruin any chance we had of qualification.... he now wants to leech countless £s out of the FA who want to sack him?

Gerrard is one of the best midfielders in the world, but if he hasn't been able to get his act together because he wasn't given the captaincy then he really needs to look at his attitude. i agree playing with lampard denies him freedom though.

Lampard and Gerrard need to duke it out to see who gets the starting berth.
