Specs first;

XP Home SP2
DFI Lan Party NF4 Ultra-D
X2 3800+
2Gb Geil PC3200
GeForce XFX 6800GT 256Mb

None of the above is overclocked and bios was flashed for the X2.

Games such as BF2 and RtCW run ok but HL2, MoH Airborne (demo) Crysis (demo) CoD4 (demo) and now the full game of CoD4 use up over half of the CPU's processing power and performance which in turn lag the games even at low setting's.
Driver's are 163 I think and I have no exclamation marks to suggest any problems with instalation of components.

Any idea's what might be causing problems for me in these game's?

I had that cpu and similar ram in my old rig was fine on those games but i had 2 7600 xtx's. I think it might be time to upgrade to a 7 series or higher card (or ati equivalent)

Upgrade is planned for early 2008.

Are you sure your apostrophe key isn't stuck? That can cause issue's.

No, the key is fine.

Crysis - no chance on that rig
CoD4/MOHA - not as demanding as the above, but still well over 3 years newer than your gfx card

The only suprise is poor performance in HL2. My second system is basically the same as that except singlecore instead of dualcore and runs it OK.

I knew my PC would not handle the Crysis demo but I did want to see if it preformed any different to the other demo's.

Rubbish, Crysis beta was fine on low-medium @ 800x600 on my old PD 3.9 ghz, 6800GS, and that's the only game that had to go that low.

CoD 4 runs perfectly @ 1280 x 1024 at medium- high settings with 35-40 average fps outside and 70+ inside, with specs in sig ( so a 3.2 c2d instead of a 3.9 ghz pD )

MoH: A I believe I've played it on medium-high @ 1024x768 smoothly (was on the pentium still).

On low(est) settings you should even get at least 40 average FPS with that card.

HL2 should be fine even with HDR, it is fine for me maxed even with AA & AF, the only issue I had when I played EP 2 was that the fps seemed to halve with the flashlight on, but in Ep 1 and original it was fine, as was ep2 with the flashlight off.

Using latest drivers and 3dmark score is sameish as old drivers ( +- 30 3dmarks in 05) so imo there's no reason to use older drivers, upping thecore 1 or 2 mhz will counter the slowdown if any.

Newer UE3 games are a bit low (30's) on FPS but still play on 1280x1024 on medium to high settings fine for me ( UT3, GoW, Bioshock ).

His card, although old, should be able to handle all games to a playable lvl still.

Have you tried just reinstalling the same drivers, first remove em then drivercleaner and then reinstall.
Hdd lag ?
How full is your ram when gaming?
What's your 3dmark05 score? It should be a bit over 5000 iirc, 5200/ 5300 something.
Have you double checked the texture settings, it shouldn't stutter at all on low in any game.
Is there a background app perhaps wich takes away a lot of the cpu time for a second sometimes? Try playing on nothing but bare windows essentials, wich means 18 processes iirc, just terminate all non stock windows processes.
Is the global nvidia settings set to supersampling with AA or something: recheck nvidia global settings and make sure vsunc is off, af is off, aa is off, that it's on multisampling and not supersamling, etc..?
Virus/ adware/ spyware ?

Just about to hit the sack but before I do. I use Ad-Aware, Crap Cleaner and Spybot at least once every 2 weeks. Defragged within the last month.

Tried with minimum processes running without any noticeable difference. Setting the Affinity did make a difference in CoD4 but not the other demo's.

I will try 3dmark05 tomorrow.

Ran 3dmark05 and the following score resulted 2147

That's WAY to low, have you tried a fresh install? I get 5200+ on my 6800GS.
Your pc performs atm as a pc with a nonGT 6600 card, definatly something wrong software/driver wise I recon.
