Is there a list somewhere? Many 360 games say 1080p on the back of the box, but it seems to just mean that they work on 1080p displays and are just scaling from 720p.

I hear drakes fortune on PS3 runs at 1080p properly is that true?

I know that CoD4 on the PS3 doesn't, says it does so on the box, but play it on any decent LCD that gives a real time "display info", it always reverts back to 720p.

Scort.

It's not even true 720p and it isn't on the 360 either, but seriously who cares, still looks brilliant to me.

Hmmm after seeing that list and the wide variety of resolutions used, i cant help but feel slightly conned. Although i think a lot of my games do genuinely use 720p. COD4 though certainly looks more scaled than any of my other games.

I lay the blame squarely at Sony and Microsoft's door. They allow this "conning" to go on and have the ability to stop it (by means of better certification etc). If some tech dudes on forums can use PCs/capture cards etc to figure out the resolution has been interpolated/stretched/scaled etc then Sony and MS must know this for a fact when the game is played on their dev units.

having said that not owning a 1080p set, yet, (only 720p) doesn't bother me much. But after all the hot air from both companies it is said to say the only thing on either console guaranteed to be 1080p is the movies!!

Just as well most1080 displays work with PCs

GOW
COD4
CRYSIS
UNREAL T5

How many of those are gonna look bad on a nice big 1080 screen

Something I'd noticed with current titles - has 1080 on the box but the image isn't *that* sharp
Like which games?

All the ones i have that's says 1080p on the back of the box, has the full res on the screen. I can check because i feed it to my Samsung 245B monitor and it tells me what the res is on the OSD

Maybe you have the setting wrong on the PS3? You have to tell it to desplay 1080p when it's avaiable, also are you feeding it to a 768 HD TV?

Most games look ok in 720, some more fuzzy then others. My biggest wish is that there will be a firmware upgrade were it will upscale to 1080p internally first before sending it to the screen, this will impove PQ massviely.

So far in terms of games by biggest disappointment so far on this is F1. It's so fuzzy that i find it hard to see whats going on. I just hope that the next in the series will feature 1080P

You are sending a 1080 signal its just the game is actually rendered in 720p then upscaled by the PS3. Thus its not actually 1080p.

What games do you think do that?

I wish it did upscale my 720p games to 1080p.

From my retail purchased games I own at the moment, so not including demos or PSN games, RR7, The Darkness, and Ninja Gaiden all run at 1080p on my screen, and look noticably sharper. The rest run at 720p, so my PS3 certainly goesn't scale those up to 1080p.

o right, I dont actually have a ps3, I just pieced together my experience of the 360 and the info my mate gave me about his ps3.

The 360 outputs in the resolution you tell it too, I thought it would be the same for the ps3.

Well my PS3 seems to output the resolution that's available to it.

IE, tell it you can run 576p/720p/1080i/1080p, when it comes across a 720p game, it runs at 720p, if it comes across a 1080p it runs at 1080p.

If you have a 576p/720p/1080i display, and it comes across a 720p game, it runs at 720p, and if it comes across a 1080p game, it runs at 720p.

Same with movies. Put in a bluray, it plays at 1080p. Put in a DVD, it plays at 576p.

Turn on the upscaler, and of course, you can upscale DVDs to 1080p or whatever you like. Same with PS2 games. So, it would be a welcome feature, IMO, to upscale 720p games to 1080p. I'd like to see what difference it would make.

Nevertheless, when you do see a game, rendered at, and running at 1080p, it does add something to it. RR7, despite not having the best graphics on the block, does have a certain wow factor at 1080p.
