Can I just say now this has nothing to do with the data loss from HMRC this week.

My daughter is 4 in February but for the past 12 months she has been receiving letters asking her to apply for loans and credit cards from various banks, Citi Bnak, Captial One, American Express and Lloyds to name a few.

I have contacted the above to inform them of her age.

Now also this week we have received a letter for the local council about who in in the household in one the voter's register, she is on this too.

It is obvious from her date of birth 2004 that is is not 18.

Can anyone shed any light as to why this is happening, is it just spam or something to look into deeper?

get her to apply
spend spend spend
don't pay back
she'll get a CCJ
in 14 years time, when she is 18, it'll be gone from her record!

LOL, I have no idea how credit card companies get the details but I have recently started getting spam from Capital one.

It is illegal to give or sell personal info to a different company. I dunno how they get away with it.

When you sign up to places then normally in the T&C it says, Contact information may be shared with Affiliated companys.
(From a fair few T&Cs ive read when trying to get free things:D)
Banks seem to own quite a lot of companys or have them in there main profile;)

Yup I think you are right, this capital one spam started after trying to get a CC from my bank, Yorkshire bank. I really think it is atrocious. especially when you have these big companies that own lots of smaller ones, they can essentialy share your details even though they aint the same company and just owned by the same people. Seems like a sneaky loop hole to me.

I also believe it has to be the same or similar products.

(have to deal with Email spam cases at work, work for an ISP).

I would guess so, but she is too young to have credit so it wouldn't go through :p

Fill the form in whith her correct age and see if they're stupid enough to give her anything.

TBH, I'm curious to see if she could actually get one.

If its entirely automated, and people can get it on "Felix" "Cat" then its entirely possible.

This is probably the source of your problems. Either the last time you filled the form in or when it was entered onto the system, your daughters name got put in the wrong section. It also sounds like she found her way onto the edited electoral roll that is sold to companies for marketing purposes. Usually there is a tick box for you to opt out of this and escape the spam.

If you want to take it further I should check with your local council or the Electoral Comission.

PK!
