Ok so I decided to update my bios to 2302 (I think!) using the asus update sevice from within windows (which I now realise was a BIG mistake!)
I selected the newer bios file, but it said it failed to flash. I tried to reload the update software, but it said no bios detected, at which point I was feakin worried!!
Stupidly I tried to restart the comp to see if there was no a problem with the bios, and there is!
I get no post, no beeps, the comp just turns on and nothing happens. (Please note that all hardware is fine, so its not a problem with that).
In currently writing this on a mates comp as ive removed the battery from the mobo, and moved the jumpers across to reset the bios.
Is this a serious problem? Im hoping that after a couple of hours the PC will boot, but if not, what am I to do?!

All help is much appreciated!

I suppose you have totally cleared the CMOS and removed battery etc?

If it wont post after that or even start try removing all IDE / SATA stuff PCI cards etc.
You may be lucky...

Failing that...
this the board?

Note the BIOS chip behind the 2nd up PCI slot.
Then go here.
Hmm he's changed that site, so just phone him.

Well ive taken the battery out and moved the jumper labelled 'CLRTC' across (as instructed in the manual). I left it out for about 2 hours and replaced the battery (and jumper) but no luck. Still nothing :(
Im starting to fear that the only way to solve this is by getting a new bios chip, which I really dont have time for!

The quicker you tell that guy what you need and pay him the better. He can turn it round in 48 hours, and it's not hard to fit a new one.

You dont need special tools for those chips, but access is everything.
Thin paper clip bent at 90 degrees and cut short to make an L works. (X 2 with very short _ )
Just something to hook on either side of the chip to ease it out.
New chip is push fit.

this is the proper tool.

Before removing the bios chip as suggested by split try the following,

1) Rename the bios file to P5WDH.ROM

2) Save the bios file to a floppy disk, USB flash drive or a CD-ROM

3) Start your system with the floppy, USB flash drive or CD-ROM inserted

4) While your system is powering up press Alt + F2 both at the same time

5) Leave the system for about 5 > 10 minutes so that the Crash Free BIOS feature can do it's thing and this should recover the bios using the bios file on the floppy disk, USB flash drive or CD-ROM

Hope this helps!
