Well this morning my trusty HiS X1900xtx decided to break and doesn't produce a usable picture. What Should I buy to replace it?

System Spec:
amd 64 bit 3700+
Asus A8N-E
2 Gig RAM

I see the x1950 cards cost around £75, are these a step up from my old x1900 or are they the cheap SE editions? I bought the x1900 in April last year for 305+VAT (from OcUK of course), am I still covered by the warranty? I'm gonna ring OcUK tomorrow but want to know what my options are beforehand if possible.

X1950 Pro seems the way to go. Unless you'd put up with the slight loss from the 2600XT (I'd go with the X1950).

OCUK usually only do a one year warranty service with their own branded products so if you fall within that category then you might be unlucky. If it's Sapphire, HIS, Asus, Connect3D, Gigabyte, Powercolor, etc then you might have a chance as they offer more warranty but it's varied between manufacturers.

X1950 is a step down from X1900XTX, it's about as fast as X1800XT.

Can you stretch to £117 for a Radeon HD 3850? That should be significantly faster.

Just did a quick check under HIS cards currently sold by oc.uk.

HIS ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 1024MB DDR2 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (H240PRHMF256-R) HIS ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 1024MB DDR2 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (H240PRHMF256-R)

525MHz Core, 256MB 800MHz DDR2 Memory, 40 Stream Processors, Crossfire Ready, 3yr Warranty with HIS/OcUK.

So i would assume your x1900xtx should have 3yrs warranty

EDIT : pasted wrong card in a hurry earlier

Thanks for the replies. My x1900 is a HIS excalibur, isn't Sapphire a different company? Can't find about the warranty in the manual but then again theres more information on the box than in the manual! (its quite amazing, the box is worth £50, I might hang it on the wall)

Heres a Screenshot of what the x1900 curruption looks like (also added to the first post):

(50p to the first person to paintshop out the curruption :p)

Would my CPU be able to keep up with the Radeon HD 3850 or would a bottle neck occur?

Based on a current HIS card that ocuk are selling :

HIS ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 1024MB DDR2 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (H240PRHMF256-R) HIS ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 1024MB DDR2 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (H240PRHMF256-R)

525MHz Core, 256MB 800MHz DDR2 Memory, 40 Stream Processors, Crossfire Ready, 3yr Warranty with HIS/OcUK.

From what i am reading it clearly says 3 yrs warranty,, sure it is a different card , but is still manufactured by HIS

Unfortunatly its out of warranty.

So now begins an evening of looking at benchmarks, forums, card specs and prices  . Should I stick with Ati or move across to nVidia?

Budget: £125
Spec: CPU:AMD 64bit 3800+
RAM:2gig
MOBO: ASUS A8N-E

I like to play games at 1240x1028

What should I buy?

Indeed, i actually UPGRADED from a 256MB X1950Pro to a X1900XTX and noticed a nice fram rate increase (especialy at high res).

Might be worth either trying to find a cheap 2nd hand X1900XT/XTX, or pushing out the boat and going for the 3850/70 series

How about that?. £117.

Quiet, low power, a little cooler (I think) and beats your XTX ;).

Hmmm, I didn't think it was that much tbh. My last card was the X1900XT and I overclocked it 700/840 for benching but 680/800 for gaming. The reason I thought it wasn't that much of a gap between the two was a 3Dmark06 score of 5400/5500 odds (can't remember exactly) and my top score was 6490. Being that close I thought the x1950pro would be fairly quick even though it has less pixel shaders.
