Well, my Dad might be up for murder!

Your opinion is idiotic. If someone enters you property and even slightly poses a threat you should have 100% legal backing to be able to protect your family as you see fit as it is your property.

If someone broke into my house right now and my little sister was in i'd grab the nearest knife/cricket bat and go rambo on their ass.

just say you saw something glint and thought they had a blade. tbh I would have shot them, imo a thief looses all rights when he chooses to break into my property and near my family. I would shoot them regaurdless of the law aswell, your dad did nothing wrong.

In that case he would have been in fear of his life and like I said he would have done the right thing.

No Helen, he would't have been "in fear of his life", he have been maimed or dead. He should not have to put himself or his family in any risk where intruders are involved. Ever.

What, it doesn't take much processing to realise if someone is runing towards you or running away/flee'ing!

So your going to let them run away down your garden path with your brand new expensive laptop under their arm?

Hell no - i'd shoot em (in the back if need be) :p

now now, don't feed the troll.

Hope justice is served and your dad gets slapped wrists. guns will never solve gun crime, but I can, hand-on-heart, say that I'd have done exactly the same to protect my family.

It's dark, you're alone and hear a crash down stairs. You go down and see a man running towards you. Do you fight for your life, or just shriek and go into fetal position?

Do you REALLY know what the mental state of the person is?

If old women can fight back to a 20 old, then so can you.

What, it doesn't take much processing to realise if someone is runing towards you or running away/flee'ing!

What? If your confronted in your house, how the hell are you going to know whether they are fleeing or not! I think your forgetting this literally take less than a second to make a decision on what to do, will you hell have time to judge whether or not there fleeing!

If I had to make a split second decision I have done the same, my only thought would be if they get passed me my family could be next.

They shouldnt have put your father in that position, even if the odds are they wouldnt have harmed anyone the possibility is there & the only way to guarentee the safety of yourself & family is to make sure they cant.

They created the risk, only themselves to blame.

Good luck

this thread is really making me look forward to my holiday in 2 weeks to Durban :(

For the record, I believe that no one has the right to take someone elses life, whether or not they are on their property. I believe in self defence, as Im a wide advocator and practitioner, but for some reason, I just dont think its right to extinguish someones life, unless in the extreme circumstance that someone is faced with the reality that they could be killed, ie someone holding a knife/gun/weapon to them. Being judge, jury and executioner to an intruder who just wants something of monetary value is different.

however if it was a Tony Martin scenario where they were fleeing when confronted then it's straight out cold blooded murder and he should be punished accordingly!

Tony Martin is a legend. The only thing he did wrong was not put the other ***** down cleanly.

If you think that people should have the right to murder someone for simply breaking into their house why not move to another country that allows this sort of barbaric behaviour?
They also chop peoples hands off and still stone people to death in many of those country’s but hey at least you'll be able to blow someone to pieces if they so much as think about touching 'your property'

No Personal Attacks! - K
I would never take the risk of someone breaking into my house and second guessing there plans. Maybe they just want to steal, or maybe there a complete sicko and want to harm you.
If i was in fire and ice's dads place they would be blown away the filthy ********.

How do you know what they are there for though? In the second or two that you get to make a decision how do you know they don't have a gun or a knife and intend to kill you and the rest of your family? What if they were going to rape your wife and children and that if you hesitated that would be their fate? How could you live with yourself then? I'd rather err on the side of caution and know that anyone breaking in to my house is breaking the law and could have any crime intended. Protecting family is the highest priority.

Any update on Ice's father? Were any charges brought against him? Is it all done and dusted or is the case on-going?

Jodie: Are you going to take advantage of me?
Me: Looks you up and down. "Nah that's alright love"
Jodie: Damn.:(

If two guys broke into my house at 2 a.m., then they have planned it and thus prepared for 'obstacles' an trouble ahead. The OP's father came downstairs to see two guys in front of him.

That would scare me to death and at that split second it would them or me. I shudder to think, with my wife and two children upstairs, what would happen, could happen, if those intruders got past the last line of defence - me!

It really is a clear cut decision - it's them and I would hit them with absolutely everything I could muster until they no longer posed a threat - that may be two bullets, beating as many times as necessary with whatever I could find or squeezing them until all movement stopped - but they would not be left to pose any threat to my family - not while there was a single breath or pulse left in my body!
