Should I sell my GTX now?

I'm considering getting an 8800GT and then selling my GTX ASAP. As I see it this is a good idea for a few reasons:

1) The GT performs pretty similar to the GTX, so not much performance loss.

2) The value of the GTX is going nowhere but down from here... I'm thinking the sooner I sell it, the more likely I am to get a decent price for it.

3) I'll be able to reclaim the two PCI slots that the GTX currently blocks...

4) I read the GT draws significantly less power? So lower power bill. ;)

Any thoughts? On the negative side I have heard that the GTX does perform a bit better than the GT and that the GT gets very hot? Do these factors make it worth hanging on to the GTX. Is there anything I've missed here?

I use it at 1900x1200 if it matters.

I'd think you'd better wait for the new GTS.

The GT performs slightly less than the GTX (and why downgrade?)... but the new GTS will outperform the GTX...

i personaly would advise you not to sell your GTX you will get more for it when you upgrade in the future to a 9800GTX :P

+ why downgrade in the first place sure GT isnt that much slower but its pointless if you want to look to the future like most people do ;)

also that Resolution your useing : far out weighs the GT as its only got a framebuffer of about 500meg where as the GTX has 700+meg higher res means higher texture memory.

Sell it now as its already worth peanuts due to the GT, when the new GTS comes out it will be worth even less.

Nothing wrong with getting shot of a GTX for a GT, as when you upgrade again, you'll get more for the GT, plus if he gets shot now, he can buy a GT and have some more money in his back pocket. :)

You're too late, you should have sold 3 weeks ago. Put it on Ebay, you'll get pittance for it on this forum.

I would sell it now, as it's gotta only be worth £200 now, when the next GTS comes or even Christmas which is 4 weeks away, it'll be worth much less.

lol theyre worth A LOT more than £200.

i sold my GTS 650mb for 190 about 10 days ago, with GTX's still going for way over £200. not sure where youve seen second hand ones sold for that price..

id still sell now though. get a GT

I guess the question comes down to:

How long until the GTS will *really* be available?

How much will the GTX drop in value when there's a GTS that outperforms it?

Would I really want to go from GT -> GTS when the new GTS comes out? (single slot vs dual slot thing is actually quite a positive for me - I could use the PCI slots that the GTX is currently blocking)

Should have got more tbh, 650mb would have been a special edition. :p

Not much point, just clock your 8800GTX upto 650/2000 or more and bump the shader clock upto 1620+, simalar to leaked "8800GTS" specs but with advantage of higher bandwidth.

Of course the 8800GT will overclock too, but why sell your card and go through all the hassle? What will you gain? £50 at the most probably and a slower card, is it worth it? No.

I sold my 8800GTX for 210 and bought 2x 8800GTS 640's at 190 each and haven't looked back - though I do miss the dualview, and a lot of people say SLI doesn't work unless you game at high res, but t.b.h I just force AFR in everything except in BF2/2142 which uses SFR much better and it's a lot smoother, especially when there's a lot of stuff on screen in any game.

Good fun in Crysis anyways! :D

im currently on a an 8800gts 640 oc1, ive looked at the 8800gt cards, and when the price finally settles they seem like a good option, but im wondering will their be a new g92 based 8800gts (in early december) i recently switched to a 24 inch monitor and im needing something to run it at a decent rate and ive heard so many conflicting storys about new GTS cards, so im thinking should i wait or just go and buy an 8800 gtx/ultra:confused:

Selling the GTX a month ago would have been worth it.

You have sadly now missed the boat.

Keep the GTX and pick another one up cheap when the GTS hits.

If I could get a a 8800 GTX for 170 ish then I would sell my GT tomo.

Unfortuately the GTS will be the card to get making the GTX redundant very soon.

in your opinion easyrider will their be a g92 based gts what with the 8800gt's current performance even the gtx/ultra cards seem old school, im worried about waiting for a new gts, that might not come, and being stuck with my crrent card (see sig) its not a bad card yet but at 1900x1200 its under a lot of strain, have it clocked at 630/1500/2000 ive got a few quid put by so im just waiting for the best option

The new GTS is just basically a a GT with an extra 16 SP's.

If you can sell your GTS now for ok money do it.

I've been getting the upgrade itch myself, i've learnt from past mistakes though that some upgrades just aren't worth it. 8800gt sli would provide a nice speed boast over a single GTX but a single GT's a downgrade really, also if the rumoured GX2 surfaces in January then It'd be nice to have that instead...GTX's are going for about the £200-220 mark in the MM and I'd expect that to drop to £170-80 once the GTS's surface so I might just hold out for a while longer, as long as I can get at least half the funds towards a new card then I'll be happy.

I bought my GTX last November, a years worth of gaming and it's still an awesome card.

the thing is though your talking about the mm,you put it on a certain auction site and it will fetch more, just had a look on that site and there is one upto 250 a point of view 880gtx and 2 for 278 and 250 these 2 are evga,so there are still people out there paying daft money for them

True, but once you've paid fleabay and paypal fees you're looking at £20-25 so not a lot of difference really, saying that i've always got slightly more for stuff on there.
