I sold some Team Xtreem ram to a m8 and he says that he keeps getting a missing ntdlr message. When he puts back his old ram it boots normally.
Has anyone come across this before?
That's a missing ntloader which is an essential part of the XP boot process. Given what you say, I would suspect that the Team Xtreem needs more voltage than his old stuff, or the timings are set wrong in the BIOS.

My friend sent me an email about solving the problem which may be of some interest:
"Sometimes memory can cause the Ntldr is missing error just through incompatibility and because my board uses Nvidia's 650i chipset i thought i'd better have a look and see if there's an update for my mainboard and it turns out that there has been 2, one of which adresses memory combatibility. After updating i've put the new ram in and all seems to be working."
