A friend's new tattoo

i would happily bet that i am better off than you - whats your point?:D

My point is you've condemned someone in your mind due to a single external feature without taking into account anything else about them... basically saying they'll fail in life because of that single feature and yet they have done better than you.

And you probably are better off than a student, what's your point? ;)

If the guy has set out to mutilate himself and look like a plonker he has done an excellant job. I mean seriously, how do you explain that to your kids in 30 years time?

"Oh I used to play a pretend guitar in a computer game and I was so stupid I had the colours that represent the buttons permanently tattoo'ed onto my fingers".

What a moron.

The guy is virtually covered in tattoos and his kid knows about them and loves them.

Her mother is heavily inked also.

I've never liked tats or ear-creature things really. Anything overly visible is pretty unprofessional if you're client facing as far as my company is concerned. I know our company just wouldn't stand for it, which I can agree with to a certain degree e.g facial tats or lobe stretchers...whatever they're called.

I think anyone with those types of things must have massive cahones though! Top stuff...

i have no problem with the guy doing what he likes, but i also reserve the right to criticise what he has done - its a free country after all. In an ideal world the outside appearance of a person should not effect your judgement of that person, but we don't live in an ideal world and judgements are made based on appearance all the time. people know this and dress/ look accordingly. If this guy has something so unique and out of ordinary he has done it on purpose and imo is an attention seeking idiot attempting to be 'different' on the outside to hide his deficiencies on the inside.

but then i'm very critical, too critical sometimes, so as someone famous once said - i don't like it but i will defend to the death his right to do it (not actually death though, maybe a chinese burn, that would be all).

Still doesn't change my opinion of him. Think it looks terrible especially when they start to age/fade.

You think he's an idiot for doing something that makes him happy?

That says an awful lot more about you than it does about him...

:p I should've been more specific - I'm going to take a guess and say you won't be patient-facing. Saying that, goldilocks is patient-facing and she has stretches.

I called him a moron, not an idiot. Re-read my post again.

Yes, I do stand by what I said. Think the guy must have a screw loose to cover himself in ugly tattoo's.

Afterall, just my opinion. Guess you feel differently but I would still consider it mutiliation when it's as pointless as tattoo'ing something relating to a computer game  Something meaningful I can begin to understand...

I have a tattoo of a toaster. I love it.

The GH tattoo has meaning too...again, I have to ask you to read the thread.

just because it's not meaningful to you, doesn't mean it's not meaningful to someone

Great, explain how a computer game in which you play a pretend guitar can be so meaningful that you would get a tattoo relating to it which will last forever

Don't get me wrong, i'm not against discrete or subtle tattoo's but am against people smoothering themselves in them. I think it does no favours with employers whatsoever and creates an extremely negative first impression.
