Now looking to buy hd dvd player before christmas

Audio system isn't exactly amazing..nice display, shame about audio setup.

Onkyo 875 not good???

Obviously you can get better, but you do have to pay.. to 90% of the populous that would be considered 'high end'..

Speaker wise, well, lots of us have to compromise

To the OP.. awesome setup...

As Mr Latte says, get a 1080p projector as well, and you are set for life..

Personally i wouldnt of spent anything close to the Pioneers price.
Mostly because they are really charging a massive premium over Panasonic and some others.

The thing is come MAY when the next models arrive this 50" set and similar spec will more than likely be £2000. Thats what would annoy me the most...

£3000+ is a lot for a TV screen and some would have went for a more balanced audio/visual package (perhaps better speakers or a cheaper TV and projection as i mentioned)

Everyone to their own though.

Pics?

i think the comment is referring to the mis matched nature of the components. High end Receiver like the 875, but matched to decidedly budget speakers.

Happy Christmas :D

Its great when you get chance to treat yourself to christmas. This year for Christmas, I only got to treat myself to a new watch, PS3 and a range of rather stupidly over-priced clothes. We are still in november though so I guess, its not that bad.

New LCD TV, AMP and Speakers coming after the new year though, damn bills :(

This is what I was going to question, too, since my £600-cheaper-605 is hooked up to a far superior set of speakers to the Arenas and it's great.

Slipping on the volume on an 875 could be nasty with the Arenas...

Surely there aren't any huge advantages except useless extra power and THX certification? I doubt the sats will see any increase in sound quality really :s

To the OP - how are the Areas? My parents are looking them for their new setup :)

Hi Folks

Think some of you maybe getting slighty mixed up with other Tannoy speaker packages , these babies are awesome and alone cost best part of £1200 with stands for rear etc.
They have rave reviews on net and one 5 * best buy review here says just how good they are :-

With the Onkyo they sound superb and look the dogs danglies sitting on wall either side of the Pio in high gloss black finish.:)

Mid end sat system, £1200 is quite cheap for a 5.1 speaker system (my main stereo pair alone cost more than that) Certainly a step up from Kef Eggs, but certainly not anything like standmount system.

Still as long as you're happy.

But they're still satellites....swap the centre for a full-size centre speaker and you'll instantly notice a huge difference :)
