How is that a problem?
right click properties > classic start menu. It's not hard and gives you the classic start menu.
tell that to my benchmarks
even superpi 1M is 2 seconds slower.
I'm dissing on Vista, I really like it.. it's just not exactly a benching OS - it's like someone applied a go-slow to everything. And this is on a 3.3 c2d, 2 gigs, x1950pro. Not the best machine in the world, but Vista makes it cry in comparison to XP.
Something wrong somewhere then, personally my 4GB,7800GT,3800 X2 cpu run my Vista x64 just as fast a XP in both gaming and general use.
I prefer Vista by a mile(my XP PC is only used for updates now, sooner they phase out XP the better).
^ What a crock of ****![]()
Microsoft were just following the HD DRM specification as defined by the MPAA and RIAA and their partners such as Intel.4. The tilt bit will be a target (see number 3) Who in their right minds codes this into an OS, idiots!
See above.5. DRM (see number 4)
Vista's is no more or less restrictive than XP.6. Restrictive licensing
Then install the Vista compatible ones? Why try instaling drivers that clearly weren't designed for Vista7. Problems with drivers (specifically high end audio & video packages having their sample rates crippled for lack of signed drivers)
8. I like to know exactly what my OS is doing and with whom it's talking and sending my private data to.
I assume here you are referring to the part in the HD DRM specification where a signing certificate can be revoked remotely? Well that's not specific to Vista, any OS that can play legal HD content has the same feature. And it's not really "disabling" that hardware. It simply black lists that driver and either requests that you install the latest one and/or automatically installs it for your from Windows Update. But this hasn't happened yet. It would require a serious flaw to be found in a driver and/or a graphic card GPU for this to happen and even then it would need to be very exceptional circumstances.9. The hardware in your computer can be remotely disabled by Microsoft at any time

Then type Netstat or download one of the many connection viewers such as TCPview from Sysinternals. Or hell if you're really paranoid use Wireshark.

What a load of rubbish. Where did you find that info from? Outer Mongolia!?
Anyway, Vista runs like a dream on my PC and has done since day one!! PC is fast and responsive.
Peter Gutmann.
Next?
(NathanE actually explains it much better than I did)
Valid point but it still makes Vista very tempting to the kiddies, who could resist? I note you don't comment on the legitimacy of having the tilt bit in the OS though?
