The Benifits of Decent Cooling on a 8800GT (Accelero S1)

Anyone manage to sli with these coolers yet. Apparently you need the extra long cable to connect the cards because the coolers are so big! And on the 680i the spacing is 1 pci more than the old sli pics I've seen.

Damn rattling is back, I better get an order in before they run out.:D

I'm getting the poxy clicking on my BFG card now, did you fit a different cooler? The noise is doing me bleeding head in:mad:

BTW, can someone who has fitted a fan to the Accelero S1 post a pic? cheers

No camera, but it's easy, you just need 4 cable ties, and run them through the bottom holes and the fins of the cooler, very easy :)

I've heard if you use a little soft velcro it will help lessen vibrations etc also.

I've ordered my Zotac AMP + S1, so soon as they both arrive I will make an effort to post some pics of both of them fitted.

One question thou for everyone, have people been taking into consideration the voiding of their warranty by replacing the stock cooler with the S1? or are people allowing for removal of the S1 if required?

Thx,
ManC

does anyone know if its feasible to run a 8800 gt with just an S1 and NO fan ?

scenario being large case with case fans, good airflow but say using a pre oc'd card like the zotac amp.

do you all think this would be safe ?

yes it will be fine, its a passive cooler. :p;)

I'd fit a fan anyway, you only need a little bit of airflow and the temps will drop dramatically. On passive my 1900XT / S1 was about 80 degrees, with a 1cm fan they don't got above 50/55, and that's overclocked to maximum CCC allows.

be warned though, the whole thing ends up taking 4 slots including the gfx card. but if you got slots to spare then why not?

Eeek! Thats no good - I have an SLI system and need to do this to both the cards. I've had temps upto 93'C and that is unnaceptable!
How deep is the S1 once the turbo fans have been fitted to it? I.E. can you still have a comfortable SLI setup?
Also, do you have to buy the RAMsinks, or do the come with the S1?

Edit - I see they come with it.

The RAM sinks come with it, but you're going to need a packet of thermal adhesive tape if you want to fit them. The sticky tape that comes with them is (censored)!! Literally that bad mate.. I couldn't even get one to stay on and other have said the same.

As for SLI, you wont be able to do it very easily as the cooler is higher than the sli bridge connector on the card. The instructions for the S1 say you have to get in touch with Arctic Cooling if you want to SLI so I'm not sure how they do it.

Also, they are wide. I mean seriously wide - especially with a fan on em. I put a 92mm fan on mine and the whole thing takes up 3 slots now! (4 if you want to allow the fan some space to suck air in).

So at the end of my ramble, this is a great cooler but not really suitable for SLI.

I 'ummed and aarrd' but out of curiosity I went and fitted one of these today and it has lowered my load temp with fur benchmark from 74c to 51c.

Unfortunately it hasn't made any improvement to my max clocks under 3D06 (780/2150/1950), but mine was pretty outstanding with the stock cooler anyway.

I know it would help those who are having problems with the stock cooler though, as there are a lot of you. One of my mates couldn't even run 3D06 with his brand new card at stock, he should have RMA'd it but he couldn't be bothered waiting for new stock so he got one of these coolers and now is running it overclocked without any problem.

Darnit - course here's me worrying about the depth of the things and totally forgot about the bridge.
I'll change over to an Antec case and hope that the cooling efficiency is as good as people make out over my cheapo £26 case.

edit: Been to their technical help site - you just get a flexible sli bridge - they have photos of an SLI system setup with these coolers. Excellent! :)

Ah nice one! Thought there must be some way of doing it of they put that note about it in there.

I see in this pic thought, they are still passively cooled. If you stick fan in there, it's going to be very close if not touching the second card. At least with this setup it is. I supppose if your PCIe slots are further apart you'd be ok but then you have the length issue.

I'd be tempted to put one 120mm card at the end of both cards and have a wind tunnel effect.

Ought to work quite well and better than passive if you can't fit a fan on each.

Yes - looks a bit difficult to source those SLI ribbons though. Have you clicked on the shop link from Actic Cooler's site?? Takes you to an RMA section of the 'Bay! lol
Hhhm and there are none available to buy anyway.
Ive put a thread into product suggestion section of OcUK forum.
