Your next car?

Suprised my suggestion hasn't been binned yet

Have you had a play with one yet?

I've had 3 weeks of hell at work so haven't had a chance to do anything yet. It's a serious contender though, as soon as I get a bit of time I'll give one a go.

As much as I... 'Respect' your knowledge Fox.. but it just seems like that you always feel the need to rub it in certain peoples faces.

Nah, I just post what I think when someone says or does something daft. Unfortunately I can't help it if its always use that says or does daft stuff.

Who'd you think I would trust more? my best freind or someone on an internet forum?

Well that would depend on how knowledgable said best friend was. I'd trust someone on the internet to advise me about home cinema, for example, over my best friend becuase he hasn't got a clue about home cinema. Much as it would seem your best friend hasn't got a clue about future residuals ;)

Make sure you find a minter. A problem you will encounter is that they are at the age where there are plenty of tired examples around which have had a hard life of 7-8 years and are due a suspension refresh to restore their former glory.

Perhaps take out a late model 330Ci from a dealership so you know its in good order - a 328Ci will be largely the same but a little less grunty, thats all.

Buy a 93' old style Cooper.

Will be worth more in a years time, that's virtually guaranteed. Less gay as well ;)

My new "car" :)

And a complete deathtrap.... slow, noisy and unreliable....

Have you seen what happens if you crash a classic mini?

Current car 1.25 Fiesta mk6 1.25 LX 2003 (first car)

probably a 1.8 focus Mk2 some time next summer... do a lot of camping/travelling, need alittle more space and power to drag it around...

And the lesson we learn from this is simply to pay more attention so the chances of having that undoubtedly fatal crash are minimised ;)

Back on topic - saw this the other day. Dodge Coronet wagon:

Tempting. So very, very tempting. Small-block V8 car, so plenty of engine options to make it quick or just leave it as it is for a relaxed cruiser. On sale for $4500. Bloody bargain. When I sort the Olds and get bored of it I may well go for a Coronet. This was even more tempting, but ever-so-slightly out of my league price-wise!

No, the lesson is to buy a good car, something a classic mini isn't, even if you ignore the fact it's about as safe as a packet of crisps...

Was thinking a TVR cerbera, but they seem to have the worst breakdown record ever!! so maybe a westfield 7 with a busa engine or maybe just a 2ltr.

You're Back! YAY:D

Didn't realise I was missed. Been a tad busy of late, not had much time for an internet social life.

Dolph, I won't deny that in virtually every single way an old Mini is a poor car by modern standards. They're invariably slow, they require maintenance work rather more often than a modern car, and they can be squashed just as easily as an empty Coke can. Still, the last time I drove a nicely maintained Cooper I had to have my grin removed with a plasma cutter. Anyone looking to buy an old Mini isn't going to get swayed by the logical and reasonable arguments against such a purchase, just as I'm never swayed when someone says "what on Earth do you want that hulking great lump of American scrap metal for?".

They are not good at all by modern standards, but they are undeniably cool. Safety record is a bit subjective, they may not stand up to a crash as well as a new cooper, but are unlikely to be doing the same speed as a new cooper at the time lol.

Heres the one on my drive :D

The girl who crashed into the back of my 200SX (:mad:) in a mini was carted off to hospital cos she couldn't move her legs anymore!

Which is why it's entirely inappropriate to recommend getting one to someone who is looking at a new mini. Any classic car requires a specific type of owner, and although a late original mini may not qualify as a classic by age, it will certainly behave like one and requires the same caveats.

ah man, i dunno why i laughed but i did. it was the wording of "couldnt move her legs anymore!", dunno why that tickled me

Currently got a Honda Accord 2.0i SE (R plate), its my first car, had it a few month now...

next car if i ever start earning decent money will probably be another honda. think ive grown to love em.

You want an A4 diesel and a Fiesta

yeh the fiesta zetec s is a great handling car and really nippy

a4's with them alloys look stunning IMO, and even have to been disapointed on a test drive i still want one.

i wouldnt get an a4 diesel, id get the 2.0 for simplicity and reliablity, then buy the 18" alloys seperate.
