I've rec'd Nokia N95 8Gb

You cant delete them before hand.

Ive read around and aparentely you switch the phone to file transfer mode, navigate in windows to the private folder, and remove the info from there. Which ive done, along with some reg keys on them i found on the flash drive, yet they still display in the menus?

Its basically the VF Branded, yet unworking with the generic firmware, GoogleMaps, eBay, YouTube & Messenger. I'd take a guess and say that a flash drive format would rid me of the problem, but im not willing to do that as it took ages to get my music on there! lol.

Its very odd.

Again though, otherwise fine.

Thanks for the info.

I'm going to do mine this afternoon, I already know how to change the product code and what to change it to etc - I'm unsure of what I can safely backup and restore to the phone. I assume a restore of contacts & messages is ok?

Did you do a hard reset of the phone afterwards? (*#7370#) ?

Nope. I didnt.

Im fed up faffing with these apps, so im backing up some data off the flash drive now, then im gonna set the phone to format it, then do a firmware re-install, then start again from scratch. See if that gets rid of those apps.:p

A hard reset should totally reformat the phone (and possibly the storage too) and restore any apps that the standard firmware provides (i.e. no Voda stuff at all). That's the theory anyway.

I'm going to backup my contacts & messages and totally wipe the phone after its done the firmware update.

Not sure.
Tbh, if you have your contacts/calender/notes/office type stuff in Outlook/an email client on your PC as well, backing those up is pointless anyway.

It turns out that formatting the flash memory, and then reinstalling the firmware fixed that app problem for me.
Thankfully. :).
Just transfering my maps/pics/sound folders back to the memory card now before i reset all my settings on the phone and then put my music back on. :).

Just need to find a *.sis download for the Youtube, eBay and GoogleMaps program now...:p.

How do you format the flash memory? I upgraded the firmware but when the phone restarted the apps were still there even after a hard reset...

Cheers - all done, all the crap removed :D

For anyone worried about debranding their N95 8GB - it's a simple process and if you ever need to switch it back to Voda firmware just change your code back to 0557135 and reflash :)

I love the settings wizard on generic Nokia firmwares. Cuts down on the time to setup/customise the phone loads! lol.

From my big list of things to do, i now have 3 remaining:
Sync music (in progress atm).
GPS settings in Maps App.
GPS Lock in range of WiFi to get initial AGPS data.

Then im all done. :).

Can you confirm what apps you had under "Applications" after your format & reinstall?

I've only got 9 on there, no sign of "Nokia Maps"... don't even know where GPS settings are or how you update AGPS. Any help gratefully received :)

Thats a complete list of every app on my phone.
Thats with the 11.0.026 Firmware, mass memory formatted prior to firmware replacement. No extra apps installed by me.

Hope that helps. :).

you should be able to stay on a rolling contract until you cancel so you can keep your current contract until the N95 becomes avalible then just give your current operator a months notice to cancel

Got one today on Vodafone (n95 8gb)

£35 a month x18

300 mins/250 text/120mb data plan

I was in Vodafone today and offered a the same deal. I'm very tempted to go for it. I'll still considering waiting for it to appear on o2 though.
