Loss of power and a bit jerky at low revs

Hi guys,

My 2.2 6pot E46 320i has always been super smooth all through the rev range, and pulled pretty well at low revs too.

However, in the last week or so, it seems to have lost power under 2000rpm, and is also a little stuttery at low revs. Still performs fine at the higher revs though.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Mal

Check around for air leaks, may be something simple like that, im not sure if its the 2.2's that have the air valve on the back but if it is then they go a lot, and the pipe also fails, could be that, and also what fox said.

Had a similar problem on a Ren 19 16V and it turned out the timing was slightly out according to the garage i took it to.

Could be MAF sensor. Take it out and have a look at it. If it is a MAF with a wire get some carb cleaner and spray it. Apparently it makes the car run a lot smoother if it hasn't been cleaned its entire life.

Could also be the clutch? I'm no expert on these things though just the first thing that popped into my head

nah, the clutch on its way out would slip at higher revs as there is more power generally :)

MAF / Spark plugs / vacuum pipes are my suggestions
