Well driving back to see my sister this morning and having just got on the A34 I felt a jolt in the car, like if I went over a speed bump. Then a few seconds later a whiney noise starting coming from the engine. I shifted from 5th (was doing around 50 at the time) to 6th and it didn't sound good either. I limped off the A34 and into a nearby car park, and the early gear sounded horrific, with the car frequently flying out of gear back to neutral.

Called the RAC who came out quite quickly and confirmed that it was indeed quite serious. After wrestling with the gears for 5 mins I managed to position the car ready to be towed. They guy towed me back to my original dealer in Abingdon who now have the car. And the mechanic that heard the car being moved didn't think it sounded good at all :(

To top it all off the only courtesy car the sales team could get was a Ka (Zetec, woooosh :p)

So the assessment will be done on Monday / Tuesday but by all accounts I'm looking at a new gearbox. All I can say is that it's a good job that I didn't do any modifications to void my warranty.
For reference the car is a Focus ST3 and is only 3 months old, 3000 miles

ok so a) are we supposed to know what car it is? Without knowing, the post is a bit pointless.
and b) seeing that it will be covered under warranty, it's a bit of a non-event don't you think?

LOL like for like in it's pure form ;)

Gutted about the gearbox but how the hell has it died with only 3000 miles, did you crunch it into every gear? :p

Or maybe you hadn't discovered the clutch :p

I thought it was an automatic all this time!

Nah I have no idea. I'm very good with my shifts, and I have been very sensible with the car, what with it being new. Most of the time the traffic is so bad that I've rarely opened the car up.

In that case it just seems like a spot on bad luck, I reckon my gearbox is on it's way out (3rd sometimes crunches), if this is the case Im looking at footing a bill of around £400 :(:o
