BFG 8800GTX OC2 vs. 8800 GT @ 1600x900 & 1920x1080

Am I right in thinking the GTX would spank the GT at high resolutions such as 1600x900 and 1920x1080 (ideally)?

How much difference at these resolutions could I expect (obviously overclocking the GTX a bit)?

Obviously there's the price difference which is not a concern at the moment as money really isn't an issue at the moment. Can get a BFG OC2 for £300 so tempted at the moment.

BFG have a step-up system or decent warranty

Well currently at the moment I think the GTX is much better for big resolution AA/AF gaming although the GT is not miles behind. If you want a card right now and no GT is in stock and money wasn't a problem then I'd go for it at the moment. (sorry just had to do it)

There isn't loads of difference even at high resolutions, you might get about a 5 - 15 FPS difference, but the OC2 model will cause it to spank a stock clocked GT. Personally though I'd get 2x 8800 GT's if you can, the price will near the same.

If money isn't an issue and you plan to keep it for a while then buy it.

However if you are planning on buying the next real high end performance part from Nvidia in the Q1 2008 buy the GT.

I would recommend looking at the numerous reviews on the WEB for comparisons.

I have had 3 GTX's, 1 GTS and now the GT.

I would save your pennies for the 9800 and buy the GT.

Just a few lol but to be fair I've done it myself when not thinking .

That's the reason why I've said to maybe get the GTX. If money isn't a problem and resale value doesn't bother you then I'd go for it.

The GT does offer much better price to performance ratio and that is why everyone else (Asgard's advice is sound) will tell you are mad to buy one but I understand the "money doesn't matter" phrase .

I used a couple of GTX's recently and when I plugged my 2900Pro back in I most certainly did feel the burn. The GT could do this for you too but finding one is about as easy as finding "Where's Wally" on a 40 gigapixel full res picture with a blindfold on.

Id just get a GT or 2, as the GTX has no resale value what so ever now.

If money isn't a problem then why wait to play games at full settings. It is starting to get cold outside you know (hibernation months).

Im looking at the OCUK 8800GTX @ £278 to me thats really good value and ill tell you why.

As the 8800GT is pretty much £187 everywhere now the GTX @ £278 dont seem bad to me at all.

Im also looking at the other end of the scale and seriously thinking of getting a 3870ct for £140. Unfortunetly they are even harder to find that the 8800GT.

I dunno blow my wod of cash now or spend £300-500 on a 9800GTX after April??? I dont have a xfire/ sli board so cant afford to have one crappy G-card.

Seems more of a need on his end with big resolutions but is this the same in your case?.

If your need isn't as great then just wait it out. Get the head buried into some games that run and look great on your system. If you keep reading and seeing benchmarks and glowing reports it will mess with your head man . Just keep an eye out on the forums and the web for information regarding the new GTS. By the time that is released (rumoured 3rd December but lets see...) there should be a new wave of 8800GT's and choices, choices, choices!!!! .

I just got a beutiful new iiyama 22 inch monitor coming from a 17". Now on my old monitor me and my trusty x1950xt 256 mb ram were very happy together. Now at 1680 x 1050. My card cries on cod4. Although after knocking shadows, glows & AA off it runs fine. As my love affair grows with CoD4 I want to make it look sexy and my x1950xt simply cant handle it so the desire to buy something hasty is emense!!

Altho might wait for a 8800 GTS v2 or try find a second hand GTX for £150 or less.

I need a card that performs at high res (1080p) as I run my rig through my 40" Sony X-series LCD. The 7950GX2 did it's job but I had to sell it on so I got £140 back for it!

The way I see it, an extra £160 for a GTX will do me till the 9800GTX or whatever it will be called arrives. To be honest I never buy a high-end card straight at launch anyhow, the prices are astronomical! The way I see it, I should still get over £140 for a OC2 GTX in 6 months time, so I think it's worth doing.

Just out of interest what would I score with a 8800GTX OC2 (overclocked a bit more!) on 3dmark06? Bear in mind I scored 10k with my 7950GX2. E6600 @ 3.5Ghz.


Also - Isn't the new GTS using the G80 but enhanced slightly? I can't see it beating the GTX..

New GT or GTS <-(after reviewed) or second hand GTX it looks like for you then. If you feel the itch then make sure you pay as low as possible for the GTX but I think CoD4 could go back to the old resolution 1280x1024 so you can add IQ for a while?, or could you live with what the settings are at now for a few weeks?.

Nice one on the sale of the GX2 btw. A nice chunk of money towards your new card.

You will pay more money for the GTX but would roughly get the same back for the GT unless the new GTS gets the edge over it but that will depend on the core used. In the scenario that the new GTS is faster than the GT it would then retain it's value the best if it for 1, beats the GT & 2, beats the GTX. If it takes down the GTX then the resale price of the GTX will take another dip.

As it stands now the GTX is a little bit faster and more so at your resolutions. I think the GTX is fine if you've got the money to burn. The new GTS could be the card for you though and a GT is a hard one to find but also a good buy. Have a really good search tonight and 2moro and see what you come up with after playing with some numbers as you may get the performance you want at a lower price. Choices, choices lol.

Ahh well as long as your still gaming then a wait wouldn't be too bad .

I'll give it my all likes. Just love the Kar98, B.A.R, Thompson, MP44 and things like that as you have to be pretty sharp with your aim. A lot faster than CoD2 online. More skill too.

I love the Call of Duty series so I will have this very soon .

Did you used to play CoD1 online?.
