Me too. If MS Explorer isn't running then you have rather a blank desktop...in fact about all you have is the desktop background and a pointer...my last XP install managed to stop Explorer from initialising, meaning no windows for me.

If you don't get it and are on windows, Ctrl+Alt+Del then in task manager, highlight 'explorer' and press delete. It will stop your environment from running. This is the MS explorer. *
