weekend football spoilers thread 24/25 Nov

babels always come on when liverpool are torturing teams, benitez probably tells him to shoot shoot shoot, because he needs the confidence etc. Torres took enough shots after all didnt he, and gerrard does too.

Was a shame torres didnt score, but hes not exactly had much match practice lately, not his fault we'v had so many draws... If you remember a few weeks ago it was torres not starting - resulting in benitez getting the blame.
Sissoko wasnt half a joke - cant wait till alonso is back for 1st team, aswell as agger.

Just had a look out of interest at how many goals Arsenal have scored post-80 minutes this season in the league; 9! Utd have got 5 whilst Chelsea have surprisingly only scored 1, how things change.

It is important to note that Utd and Chelsea have earned no extra points out of their late goals (i.e. they have never scored after 80 mins when either level or behind), but Arsenal have gained 13 points from late goals:

Coming from 1-0 to win 2-1 against Fulham in the last 10 minutes = 3 extra points
Scoring against Man City to go 1-0 up = 2 extra points
Two late goals at Spurs to take the win = 2 extra points
1 late goal vs Sunderland to take the win = 2 extra points
Late goal vs Liverpool for a draw = 1 extra point
Again against Utd for the draw = 1 extra point
Two against Wigan today for the win = 2 extra points

It's a nice ability to have. :(

yep, arsenal have been winning games because of scoring late. but in a lot of games this year we've been up against teams sitting way behind the ball, and in those situations often its working and working to break them down and it becomes easier when they are a little tired and mistakes get made.

as for babel, i wouldn't think that benitez tells babel to shoot like mad, but when you come from playing a lot of games, a team pays, was it 13ish mil, for you and you've barely been given a chance. in a game you are completely dominating, against a side thats playing so pitifully its a joke he's going to want to grab a goal or two to try to convince his boss he should be starting. but as soon as he came on, he was running around players(abeit not very good ones), shooting coming extremely close, was involved in the 3rd goal i think, didn't he pass it off between him and gerrard who crossed it for the finish?

liverpool's main problem is buying a lot of players, but often ignoring those very very very top quality players, instead buying slightly less good players, but more of them with the idea of having an incredibly deep squad. which they might well have, but they lack as good a first team as they should have. but a not perfect side on a great day will play great, its just on a poor/average day i think theres a lot of teams who can beat them if the other side is having a great game.

but chelsea and liverpool have had the problem of, too many established first team players being brought into the squad, which creates issues of players going from first team to barely playing, doesn't always work out so well.

benitez's press conference where he was constantly repeating the thing his owners had told him, it was so funny. though it sounds like the owners said they'd talk about january when they were back in the uk mid december, so he's being a bit of a baby about it. at some point owners lose faith with " i just need 3 more players and we can win the league", reply " but you've said that for 3 years now" .

just read a phew of these posts, 2 man team ?, my personal opinion.

Rooney Out - Our Best Striker No doubt
Scholes, Ronaldo IMO - Our 2 best midfielders
Vidic - IMO Our best defender

Take your best attacker, your 2 best midfielders, and your best defender out of any team and you cant ask for much. just wanted to quote whoever it was who said ''2 man team'' load of rubish

in the team fergi played yes we should win even if we have them out, but there no quick counter attacks what so ever and dont think there ever will be with that line up.

and imo he should get saha out asap, good on him been good in the past but i dont believe after that long out that many injuries you can get back to your best for a long time, Especially for a attacker.

No RvP, no Cesc, no Flamini / Giblet plus Senderos wasn't playing so it's exactly the same situation as Man U ;).

Not a great performance from us, we do really struggle when teams just sit back. Considering who we had out though we got a good result especially as it was left so late. Plus we have a nice 3 point cushion which will hopefuly turn to 6 when we play our game in hand (which it looks like we're playing on the 5th of Dec). No one in particular stood out for me but i was disappointed with Ade and Rosicky until late on. Eboue looks pretty ineffective on the right too, no where near as good as he looked in the friendlies before the season kicked off. We'll need to be a lot better to beat Villa next week.

I know it didn't work out for Man U this weekend but usually when teams sit back against them they get battered but we never seem able to do this for some reason. Luckily we've been able to nick the odd goal this season but it may cause us problems later on.

Fulham vs Blackburn today, and one spare ticket haha.

I agree, but even losing that, Uts should be able to cope in the premiership with the likes of Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson, Saha and Tevez, although i still think someone like Rossi is who Utd need when Rooney is out.

Shame Utd lost, but they got complacent and let it slip.

yeh i said theres, no excuse united should have won, pique's lack of experience cost us

i would say liverpool look incredibly lucky to be where they are, a strong defense is whats given them a lot of draws where they could have lost easily.

Actually the reality is the opposite, we've been incredibly unlucky with injuries and should've won many of the games we've drawn, including the chelsea game and possibly the Arsenal game. We really should be top of the league right now.

Why do you think you should have won the Arsenal game, you were lucky to get a point from where i was watcing as we were all over you.

well what can i say, if you think that you should by rights be sitting top of the league bar some bad luck then fair play to you.

He was responding to somebody saying we're lucky to be in the position we are in which isn't the case. It was strange for it to be coming from an Arsenal fan too, as mentioned earlier how many points have they gained in the last 10mins of matches?

The only game i can think of where we got more points than our play deserved was the Everton game, we're in a excellent position in the league considering the amount of injuries we've had to key players but it hasn't been down to luck.

We should have beaten Arsenal, but they are notorious for getting late goals and did have a few open goal attemtps so ill agree a draw was fair however Chelski never deserved a pt at anfield.

Dont forget though everyone reckons Liverpool are in a bad way and are struggling, but in truth we are in a very strong position with first team players suffering long term injuries due back. We have the best away form in the Prem and are unbeaten, its just the home draws we need to turn into wins.

Obviously im not denying your lot missed some easy chances and if you'd finished them, then the game would've been well over. But Alonso going off had a huge impact on the way we were setup and from the way we were playing i think if he hadnt gone off we could've held on or even nicked another, after he went off it was clear it was a matter of when not if. Also with Torres going off at half time we had little chance to stretch you at the back, if he had remained then who knows what he could've created. Mascherano was also left hobbling around the pitch for the last 10minutes which didnt make it easy to shift the ball around. As it was a draw was a fair result, but i definitely think without the injuries we could've held on to take 3 points.

indeed, arsenal game - you hammered us silly, but if gerrard hadnt wrapped the game up(am i imagining that he had a great chance and didnt take it?? or was it someone else.. or another game?!?)
Dont forget after not acquiring one of our transfer targets(Heinze), and not getting a replacement we suffered an injury to Carra early in the season, which thankfully didnt affect us, and then we lost Agger and Alonso, who are massive parts of the team.
It meant Hyypia had to come in, and has taken his time to settle back into first team(own goals anyone? :*( )
And we'v been lost sometimes without Alonso building play up from midfield, aswell as Agger bringing it forward out of defense actually and passing it about.

Babel may get some shooting practice etc in, hes bound to be playing upfront or something sooner or later.
