Am I alone in wondering what the current obsession is with mounting panels above the mantlepiece?

It just seems like a chavy fashion trend to me!

It's certainly not optimum viewing height... maybe to keep the screen away from little kids?

Nothing chavvy about it just stupid and it would give me eye ache.

I think its more poeple who dont think about the height and straining to view it.

Its probably because in new houses the chimney is about the only brick wall on the inside of the house and they're afraid to properly mount it on a wooden partition wall :)

For me it is to keep all the clutter e.t.c away and hidden.

I have the TV mounted with all cables hidden in a channel in the wall and all the surround sound e.t.c in cupboard hidden from view, all being controlled by a RF remote. This meens no cables to trip over and more space, with small kids and animals just reduces the potential for "accidents"

Viewing angle does not bother me as sitting around 10 foot away.

The word 'chav' is overused more and more on a daily basis, but this really does take the biscuit. I how on earth can the position of a TV have *anything* to do with being a chav?:confused:

Chav might not be the best word. I was referring to the way people seem to be following a "fashion" trend aimlessly. Perhaps "fashion victims" might be more appropriate :D

In many rooms the only position where the TV can be located in the centre of a wall is where the fireplace/chimney is already positioned. Suppose its preferable to having the panel stuffed in the corner.
