This goes for everyone, whether your religious or not. I'm interested to see what people think after hearing one guy today ramble on about how we are insulting most of Asia and Africa for celebrating it... :/

I don't have a religion yet I use the time to visit old friends and see distant family members. It always turns out to be a good day. My personal view is that it is no different to any other religious celebration (apart from the massive consumerism that now surrounds it), yet for some reason it's the only one that causes "offence". I wouldn't be offended if I lived in a Muslim country and people celebrated the end to Ramadan... or is it just me?

How can you be offended by it. If you don't like it don't celebrate it.

But most people celebrate it as a family time of happiness. Rather than any religion.

It's hardly considered a religious event anymore nowadays anyway. So you'd have to be ridiculously overly sensitive to be offended by it, and thus rather silly. It's a family and friends and loved ones get together if anything - it doesn't have to be about anything else. :)

TBH, I think the people who think people of other religions get offended by xmas, are christians...

I dont really think anyone would find xmas offensive.

I'm a Hindu but I'm not offended. It's even the one time a year I actually go to church for the mass or light some candles as a mark of respect. I found it most odd when the office manager at my new place of work asked if I was going to be ofended by holding a secret santa.

It must have been an extremist you heard. I have never come across a non-christian offended by xmas.

I don't celebrate Christmas...

I celebrate Xmas. The annual feast of gift-giving, drinking excessively, family fistfights and gluttony.

Modern day Christmas is a cultural thing, not religious.

The tree, Santa and crappy music have nothing to do with Christianity. Although I believe the gift idea is? From when "Jesus" was born. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm Orient, non-christian but I like the whole Christmas idea of family reunion, coming together to celebrate togetherness (and the gifts and giving of gifts to others - share happiness together)

The whole Jesus is born that day isn't a thing for me that makes Christmas, Christmas. It's the family.

This goes for everyone, whether your religious or not. I'm interested to see what people think after hearing one guy today ramble on about how we are insulting most of Asia and Africa for celebrating it... :/

Personally, I think who ever said that either have very narrow view of other cultures (and their ability to tolerate) or they themselves are too stuck up their own believes to tolerate.

I don't like the commercialisation of it but the idea of family gathering is a good one.

Same here.
That's why my misuss's family have invited me to a meal on the 16th, it's the gathering part of xmas, no presents or anything like that. Will be a nice change from the stuff with presents etc. at home.
I then get to go home and have a present filled xmas with my family...the joy.

...

Come on, it's a joke ;)

Believe me , some people would be offended by it.

A good example would most likely be Osama.

Yeah he doesn't like anything thats not islamic heh.

Whats the law on disliking religious festivals nowadays then? Can you get done for openly saying I hate blahblah?

Considering that 'christmas' only falls on that date because it happily coincided with previous Pagan festivities and thus made it easy to 'convert' people a couple of thousand years ago, isn't this entire thread moot unless you are pagan?
