Well I got a phone call earlier from one of my housemates that had gotten back to our uni house after a night in Birmingham to say we had been broken into, nothing terribling unusually there you might say but I arrived back at the house this evening to check what had gone missing and I had a look round to see how they got in and it looks like they removed the beading of the bathroom window removed the glazed unit climbed in then replaced the unit and the beading with my nice dell widescreen in tow.
Im not really bothered due to the fact im insured but I am impressed how they got in it also looks like they actually bought some replacement beading with them that was the exact fit of the window so they must have been round to measure up earlier.

Sounds more like your flatmate nicked it and then did all that to throw you off the scent...

i suspect flat mate :)

give him a swift kick in the love spuds and repeat until he coughs

pvcu window? if so they would have just put the original beading back in... but tbh why bother doing that?
as said above I would be having words with flat mates or anyone with a key tbh

If you have a double glazed unit then you shouldn't be able to remove the beading from the outside. I suggest if this is the case, then the window is inside out. Sue the landlord!

I'd be asking your flatmates too. Why would a burgler go to that much trouble? It would just mean he had to hang around longer and risk getting caught.

hes too stupid :p na it wasnt him as our landlord had to come round the other night to turn the alarm off when we were all away, he had a look in my room n he thought the fact I had an xbox360, an amp and a couple of portable harddrives strewn over my floor was normal

Just to clear it up it definately wasnt my house mates as ive known them all for years 3 of them were back in my home town with me and one was away working.

I have no idea why they would go through the trouble but the glass unit has dropped in the fame and theres a nice muddy footprint on the window sill so thats defiantely how they got in

i smell BS here (edit: on your flat mate), have a strong word with your flat mate, call the police, you will need to if you want to claim on your insurance anyway.

Hehe did they hoover and dust too? Sounds like an awful lot of trouble they went to! Even bringing replacement beading incase they broke some, breaking and entering or breaking and home-improvements? Too funny! :D

not true.

a lot of pvcu windows use external beading. Most that do this use glazing tape (foam sticky tape) to attach the window in place, making it virtually impossible to remove without smashing.

<< ex double glazing fitter :D

So he went to all the trouble of fixing your window but didn't care about the muddy footprint giving clues to the police?

Sounds very dodgy to me.

Yes, that's my point exactly. This beading should, I was told by our fitter, be also stuck firmly in place and be virtually unremovable. I agree that there seems to be more to this than meets the eye.

it sounds dodgy to me as well but like I said I know it was none of the guys and the police have been round with the crime scene guys coming out tomorrow, it looks like they were disturbed as they have ripped my amp from my speakers and left it lying by my door and my xbox has been dropped but then that makes no sence with the window replacement either

Sounds like someone tried to do the job witout leaving any clues but stuffed it all up. Landlord looks to be an obvious suspect tbh.

You sure the window wasn't open and they climbed out, shutting it ;)

-Leezer-

Unless they then someone managed to pass though a solid object the lock the handle then nope :p
Ive never been to sure about the landlord to be honest but if he was trying to do it without a trace he would just let himself in

There you go then, it's the landlord!

Have you asked him about it and made the point that it's very dodgy that this happens after he's had a sneaky look through your belongings? Phone the police and tell them that he was sneaking around your room when you weren't there.
