*Unreal Tournament III*Thread :o) Game Pics & Performance.

hmm, still unsure whether to buy this game. I was going to purchase Crysis on the basis that team fortress 2 is probably more fun to play online. So, is this game anywhere near the original ut99 ?

My own opinion is thats is better, some of the old maps have been kept and given a complete overhaul, nice to see the music has been kept as well.. Worth every penny..;) If you remember the original UT99 and the *Deck* level, have a look at the improvements they have made graphically in the pictures I have posted in this thread.

Uh, hmm, to play good online do you NEED a good mouse? I've got this old 800dpi optical mouse, did me fine in UT2004 but found I was not improving much but dont know if that was releated to a mouse.

I'm just using a Microsoft Wireless Explorer 2.0 Mouse and the response to game time is excellent...:D

I've been using a Logitech MX318 for years and have never had problems taking 1st place in tons of games.

What's with all the Deck love? I never understood why they keep remaking the poor/gimmicky maps with each version of UT and dropping the better ones :p

I think this is the best UT yet though. :) Weapon balance is much better than it was in 2004, and there are almost no entirely useless weapons/fire modes like there were in the original UT.

deck 16 is what de_dust is to counterstrike, you gotta have it, even if it is a terrible map. Though deck 16 is quite well balanced.

I've always found a use for alt fire on the original, though 6 missiles or 6 nades in ** launcher was a tad overkill, though the spread on that was great. The ripper in the original was a pretty cool gun, good for indoor maps with lots of corridors.

Do you guys use Mouse Smoothing or not?
I can't decide if its easier to aim with or without it. I think guns like minigun and link gun where you just sweep over the enemy and try to ignore his little vibrations benefit from it, but weapons that require a faster snap reflex like rocket launcher and sniper don't. So i'm undecided...

Hi there

I had this arrive a few days ago as I'd pre-ordered it months ago.

Anyway I've installed it today, set everything to maximum and it looks stunning and seems to play fine.

However its been a long time since I played a game and was a little confused as to some of the settings.

1. I do not have a PhysX card, so should I be selecting hardware physX or not? (For now I have it selected)
2. What is the post processing option all about? (At the moment am on default, what is best?)
3. Is the BETA patch worth installing?

1: Nope hardware PhysX is only for a PhysX card I believe
2: Intense is good but some people may prefer vivid :)
3: I would not bother, no improvements in the beta patch as far as I can see, wait for the official release.

Post processing options are just personal preference I think. In the gears of war thread someone took some screenies of the different settings and the general concensus was that vivid looked the best. Intense was just too bright and the other two settings looked a little washed out.

If you don't have a physx card, then have it disabled. Post processing effects are sort of like themes if you will. It's mostly brightness and shadowing intensity, sometimes bloom, so you can have it hazy like a dream i suppose.

Comparisons on this page, i don't think it has any competitor links on it. Hold your mouse over the links, it's one of those on_mouse_over [preload] settings.

I wouldn't install the beta patch just yet, i don't think it's official so it may do some damage. I have been hearing some good things about this leaked beta, but your game may not be recognised when it comes to installing the official patch.
