Hi Guys,

Took the plunge last week to get some ReaperX 6400 EB 2x2GB modules, to try and solve my memory problems on this MB, arrived on friday. and started playing with them, got them somewhere else, couldn't wait, rest of there gear in my sig is from OCUK.

First off, you cannot fit 4 ReaperX memory sticks into a Striker E MB, the sticks are too fat, or the DIMM slots are too close together, bottom line is currently you cannot get four onto the board and working. With some gentle persuasion you think you have got all four modules home and the retaining clips closed - but you are just kidding yourself, it does not show above 4GB on boot.

Secondly, I was getting some really crap timings when using 2x2GB and SPD or EPP enabled. Manually setting the EPP profile let me post OK but i could not complete OS boot- BSOD. I switched to a single stick and tried EPP again, success, this worked on all four slots.

So i tried again with two sticks, BSOD again. I vaguely remembered a poster on OCZ saying he had had problems with his blue slots so i gave them a shot in the white slots and away we go.

I dont know if this is a undocumented "feature" of the Striker, has anyone else got problems with their blue slots? or is it a faulty board? I'm using bios 1305 BTW.

My next problem is what to do with my remaining pair of ReaperX's, i'll probably try and return them for a credit, but i would really like to get 8GB working on this board. Does anyone know if four original style Reaper modules will fit onto one of these boards?

Yep... on my BFG 680i 4 sticks fit without a prob - but I have 4x1GB sticks

1stly, 1305 is a POS use 1301 or 1303.

2ndly OCZ Claim Asus and a few other Vendors but mainly Asus and EVGA change Nvidia settings and this causes issues with their Memory, personally I dont believe either of them and returned the 4GB Reaper (non X) kit as I had nothing but trouble on my Mobo with it.

3rdly, I highly doubt you need 8GB of Memory m8.

This is by far one of the buggiest Mobos I have ever owned.

Did the 1301 and 1303 thing last week, that was when I only had some Geil PC25300 memory, it didnt like that at all, may give 1303 another go with the ReaperX. Do you think 1305 may be messing with my blue slots? It's certainly worth a try.

I do quite a bit of 3D CAD and solid modelling, mostly at work but some at home, so 8GB was my target for using CAD and Inventor at home, when i'm not playing games.

Totally agree about this MOBO, never had this much greif in my life with a new build!

All I know is 99% of peeps who know what they are doing, got rid of 1305 as its a joke, some even messed up their erproms going to it. (I thought I had but got back up and running).

Just got an email from ASUS bios 1401 is out, will give that a try tonight when I get home. If thats no improvement I'll give 1301 a shot, I think its 1303 that doesn't like Razer mice and keyboards, am I right?

Thought I had goosed my eeprom too, had to use the CD to recover from a couple of failed flashes.

Helmut, how do you think your X-Fi compares to the on-board sound?

Jesus, finally the promised 1401 bios, doubt it will fix backlight constantly on or my missing 2nd GiG nic or missing 1394.

1305 was to fix Razor hardware, but broke everything else.

I aint used onboard sound ever, I have heard the 7.1 sound on the other Asus mobos as I use for customers though and its ok I suppose, not sure if this card with the Strikr is better or just seperate as of spaces issues.

Edit, I do not see any new bios on their site, they have claimed this before.

Loading 1401 as we speak, and the date on the damn thing is 14th September!!!!
What was with the delay?, though I should not speak too soon, need to see if it even lets me post.

Success....so far

Quick update guys,

Bios 1401 loaded and operational, ReaperX modules are now working in my blue slots and EPP profiles loaded correctly, will run orthos over night to see if looks like a keeper.:)
