***Drake's Fortune Review!***

OMG!

Just had a bit of a play, just got to the beginning of Scene 3.
It really does look pant crappingly good.

From the demo, it sort of reminded me of a cut down Crysis... a bit like it looks on medium.

The full game does indeed look better though.
This scene I have on my TV at the moment, at the beginning of scene 3 is just breathtaking.

Now, graphics aren't everything.

The sound is DTS, and so far, so good.

The gameplay, is brilliant.

No running around and shooting for the sake of it yet, with the exception of the intro level. In fact, after the start, no baddies at all yet. Just running around, finding the hidden objects, and working out how the puzzles, and proceed onto the next bit.

It really is good, and I wish I didn't have to stop now... but I will be back on it later.

I'd say definitely 100% worth a purchase, it looks great, plays great, and if I had to rate it, with my experience so far, I'd say it's an AAA must own title, and should indeed shift a load of consoles when people get to see it.

V1N.

V1N, thanks for sharing your impressions, I am beginning to think about getting this game after all, I had to get used to the shooting a lot but as you said it isn't all shooting.

Mine has arrived as well, going to give it a play in a bit. My DS3 shipped with free shipping last week, so don't expect yours too soon, as mine hasn't arrived yet.

Just played a bit more, to scene 4, which is, as was mentioned before, the demo level, so I'll play again later.

Part way through scene 3, the shooting of the baddies started.

I don't know if it's been fine tuned more than the demo, but, it's not annoying/frustrating in the slightest!

I've already got a couple of "rewards" for counting up the headshots... in fact, I look forward to more of the shooting stuff after all now.

A nice mix, some puzzling, some action.

The story seems to be good too, am looking forward to finding out what happens next.

V1N.

EDIT: It's also (of course, as everybody would've guessed) one of those games where it doesn't hurt to look in all the nooks and crannies, where you can find little shining bonus pieces, for achievement score and unlocking of making of stuff.

Yeah, that's what I thought, which is why I decided not to wait... or at least, to give the first level a try, and see what I thought.
After the first level, it did grip me though, and I wanted to see what came next ;)

My Haze is still listed for release on Dec 4th, so guess the DS3 can wait for that. I'm not that fussed anyway... and Drake's Fortune definitely won't wait! :)

whats the loading between levels like?
May get this after all if the shooting isnt so bad :)

Actually I don't recall any loading between levels... just level (it loads while you're playing) cutscene, level.

To be fair, I've been doing other things too, so probably wouldn't have noticed.

I'm sure RP2000 will post back his findings later, I've got to go out now.

EDIT: Just got home and thought I'd have another go. From the main menu, pressed "continue game" and it took about two seconds before I was playing again! So, no, no level loading times ;)

Ive completed this game and am on my second time through it. Gameplay and story are really good. the graphics are stunning.. some places there is a lot going on yet ive witnessed no slow down what so ever. anyone looking to buy it.. id say go for it! only problem i have is its not long enough :( first time through took me just over 8hrs. and i was taking my time really.. but the achivments make it worth playing again on a harder setting :)

Loading between levels aint much at all.. as said its more between game play and a cut scence but its not intrucive

any questions? lol

22
yes id say it is kinda. But you know Naughty dog they like to do things in 3's
id say its about 75% shooting myself. once you get used to it.. it becomes pretty good tho. :)

Been playing this all afternoon and now up to level 13 glad to know theres 22 as I was worried I was getting close to finishing it! I dont know about anyone else but the term GOTY is bandied around a lot at the moment but for me this is it. I always thought this game looked interesting but i have a PS3, 360 and high spec PC and with all the great games out at the moment who would have thought my favourite game of the year would be on PS3!

Cheers,

You hardly notice the loading sometimes you get a blank screen for a few seconds loading the cut scenes other than that no noticeable loading.... So much for bluray being slow.........

Only on level 2 at the moment but the game is seriously iimpressive graphically. So far it plays like a Tomb Raider game with elements of God of War thrown. I like the way the climbing travsersing walls is quite fast compared to other games using similar techniques.

Character voices and acting seems good as well. Like the whole Indiana Jones/Tomb Raider kind of storyline and you can't easily tell when the view changes from cutscene to gameplay (in terms of the graphics looking about the same). Did I mention how impressive the character animation is when he jumps, runs, turns etc?

Bits in the underground the lighting with the torches is pretty ace. The camera angles are done very well, and I love the way the camera view blurs slightly when you spin it full left/right lock. Gives it a moviesque kind of feel.

No-one has mentioned the tearing so far, but there is a slight amount here and there. (no-way near enough to affect gameplay, but it is there, maybe marginally more than Gears of War (360) but less than Heavenly Sword (ps3)).

I am certain that still camera shots from a camera phone do this game no justice but I am going to post 2 anyway (new camera phone syndrome :):

Lol mate, that was nearly the exact screen shot I wanted to post.
At the beginning of Scene 3.. where I put the graphics are pant crappingly good... except, instead of me squatting down, it was his mate, but by the time I found my camera, he'd stood up again ;)

Just started Scene 5, and going to leave it for today now, watch a bluray :)
