A pic for all you Mercedes lovers.

If I was to say that, to be honest, nothing Ferrari makes is interesting to me like a 306 GTi, you would quite rightly think I was slightly mad, and perhaps a little blinkered.

Yep. Wouldn't think it was sweeping though :)

Looks are only a tiny part, a car like an SL is just so complete, its not a sports car, its a large luxury grand tourer with an open top. It fits in wherever you may take it, it will lap up thousands of effortless motorway miles and still impress when rolling round town at 5mph in the sun with the roof down. Its never tried to be a sports car, mercedes dont try and cater for this market.

Yes it is a very good car and does what it's meant to. but I have to disagree, looks are a major thing, especially on a car that price. I'm not saying it's a bad car. Just I don't like it's styling. Be boring if we all liked the same thing.

Sorry but that just exudes class. The fact it dates from 2002 is even more impressive. It's still as fresh today as the day it first went on sale.

What a car. Not my cup of tea and I will never own one but man, what a car.

Ah, must have read the S55 as a SL55.

I see where your coming from. Liking the larger, quick four door cars.

Just set your sights on a E39 M5 :p

What do people think about the SL350?

I drove one a while back. It didn't exactly set my pants on fire.

Has the looks of the SL500 and SL55, but lacks power.

I would really get an SL500 atleast if I was after a SL.

SL350 seems a little pointless. Its the entry model isnt it?

Thats a sweeping and ridiculous statement if I ever heard one. You can appreciate the technology and potential interest in something without liking it yourself, you know.

I am not interested in Lexus but you wont hear me making statements like that about them.

Only a fool would claim that nothing from a manufacturer which produces things like the CLK AMG Black Series, various supercharged V8's, etc etc, is not as interesting as a Renault Clio.

Meh, Mercs are posers cars, for young asian males and the middle class. While I haven't any personal experience of them, the motoring press has stated numerous times that they are pretty hopeless as drivers cars, and as such it seems to me that the only reason they put such big powerful engines in is so that the owners feel some sense of superiority.
I'm sure you could buy a porsche for the same money, i'd have one of those every time.

What? You mean the £90,000 SL55 AMG is targetted at 'Young asian males?'

Thats a bit stereotypical..

and the middle class

I don't see being stereotyped as middle class is that big a deal.

Really? Thats interesting as everything I've read heaps praise on the SL500 and above.

A fast 2-door Porsche is a different sort of car to a big fast 4-door Merc though; different cars with different purposes. Unless you were still on about the SL55, then I can see your point.
SL-series is still an awesome looking car, though.

Could those who say the SL AMG looks boring, yawnworthy and plain, post examples of what they find interesting, exciting etc.?

I'm just interested, as I can't see how a car with nice multispoke alloys, tasteful bonnet and wing vents, aggressively styled bumpers, purposeful lines etc. could ever seem plain and boring to anyone.

I have to admit, Im starting to prefer the new wave of Mercs over BMW.

The new C Class really is nice. Especially the C63, and the new shape CL55 is incredible. I parked next to one the other day and it has so much road presence. I would love to own one of these new Mercs. Im glad they are moving away from the twin light styling, however the SL is an exception, its a great looking car that ticks all the right boxes.
