Peugeot 306 HDi

Hi guys, thanks for all the help and advise !

I've found a car at a dealers 25 miles from where I live,

I rang him tonight , its done 96,000 miles though and he wants £3000 for it.

Its green and its a 3 door HDi.

I might go and have a look and haggle the price down. But 96,000 miles is a bit high for my liking :(

It's pretty much standard but I'm thinking about a remap when I get back to driving it. I moved away to uni and couldn't bring it with me so it's at home being driven by my mam. I only get to drive it the occasional weekend now and then but hopefully I'll be able to have it at uni next year if they give me a permit and then I'll look at a remap.

Your's looks nice too, nice 30-70 time, I'm going to have to see what mine does it in next time I'm home.

cool, the 30-70 time was with a tuning box i have lying around it was more of a petrol esque power delivery than my remap.

Im wondering now if you have yet discovered passive rear steering :p

I know tHe 306 has it but i have no other car experience to compare it to so can't really say what I think about it.

Get yourself on pug306.net

90% of the cars on there for sale are the owners pride and joy.

That 96k one seems well over priced to me. Oh, green is one of the most un-desireable PH3 306 colours too.

Probably because it's from a Stealer.

It basically makes the car more prone to oversteer than understeer, some people refer to the 306 as having a twitchy rear, but once you get used to it you can find it helps, thing is when your a new driver it can surprise you, then you realise how well it corrects itself... then your laughing :D (I recommend you try it on a private road or a track though) I also find the heavy diesel engine keeps the front wheels hard to the floor and helps it avoid understeer (good idea to have good rubber, but dont expect it to last long at all*:o)

Infact my tyre wear rate is ridiculous  dont tell anyone

Ah yes I have experienced this but luckily I've had some go karting experience so I've just been correcting it like I would a go kart lol, it might go on to explain why my mam spun on a roundabout though when she took it out, she said something about oil on the road  :p

On my 306, on the ignition that STOP light doesnt not come on with the initial key turn, at least i dont think it does. If its on when/if you view the car then walk away unless you are willing to take it to a pug dealers to find out why its on as it could be an easy fix, but it could be an expensive problem.

Dont know whether they all ave the same setups, but my V reg petrol has never caught me out, and its my first car. I give it some serious stick on B roads too without any major problems.

l33t_loox where did you get those alloys? They look lovely on that car.

My baby.

I plan to, but Direct Line dont seem to cover for any mods at all for anyone under 24, either that or I read the policy details wrong :(

Im actually considering not bothering touching it, and maybe getting a GTI6 in about a years time.

I'm liking the 306 love :)

I've got a petrol 1.6 with a few mods and it's quite good fun when you get it going but definitely a *bit* underpowered, and mine's a bit lighter than the derv!

Must admit im getting an urge for a car with wind up power and a soundtrack :(

Yeah its strange, dont try it on a public road but its almost like you dont have to correct it, you can ride it around corners and when the corner goes the car straightens up :D

I think they all have it mate but its not something you notice easily, took me a good 10 months to realise that there was something extra going on compared with say a 106 (i only read about it when i thought to search) and that was on a stupid corner racing a clio sport 172 (who couldnt get past me:p)

got the wheels from wheelbase mate but the rubber cost most :p

if your wanting a gti6 have you considered intercooling an HDi? you can get a dturbo HDi so it looks the same and has decent power and huge torque and MPG!!

although thinking about it the gti6 is one HELL of a car but the insurance is high

intercooling a HDI did someone say? oh sorry, we already have that on xsaras :p

/immature and mindless xsara pimping

:D

in all seriousness, some very nice 306 examples on here :)

Thanks :) I've spent a fair bit on it but it's been fun, and somewhat a labour of love getting it back from the horrendous condition it was in when I got it :)

It's a 41k Saxo VTR 90bhp lump, shorter ratio gearbox, decent enclosed Green induction kit, a 106 Rallye 4-2-1 manifold and 2" pipework with a decat. It revs a lot more freely now I've got the manifold on, and the box gives a bit better acceleration but lower top end, which I don't mind as there is hardly any torque so getting upto the powerband as quickly as possible is ideal :) I also recently added some 206 GTI 180 calipers and disks that I managed to pick up for less than £200 :D

fonzee: Have to agree on the washer jets, one of the first things I did was get Xsara ones! :D

cyclones are standard pug wheels mate, therefore they are not classed as a mod. therefore, you'll be fine, just a shame they go for so much on the 'bay! lol
