Fergie charged by the FA.

i'm all for ref's getting more respect in the game, but first of all i'm massively for ref's earning that respect. right now they are basically immune to punishment of any kind , are free to make any mistakes they wish without fear of losing their jobs. they effect games dramatically with poor decisions. once they improve, then crack down on people that get mad at the incompetant fools.

i think they should definitely have a greater degree of accountability. explaining their decisions in an open fashion would help as well.

They are accountable, when they've had bad games they've been relegated to lower league games. Also they're selected for the major games based on there performance.

Forcing them to explain their decisions wouldn't be the best idea imo, they obviously need to increase the amount of decisions they get correct but getting them to explain every decision wouldn't actually help anything.

i think you could look at restructuring it slightly. I haven't thought this through properly but off the top of my head. what if we acknowledged the importance of refs and gave them an opportunity to earn far more than they do currently. a more representative payment for their influence on the game but also one that is performance related and that allows their decisions to be scrutinized.

say a basic salary per match which would be pretty decent but then a series of bonuses which could be worked out depending on both performance and the relative size of the game (perhaps split games into tiers where you have your average bolton - west ham etc (no offence to either teams supporters)). Derby Matches/Relegation European battles and then Title challenging/Premier grade matches. with refs on a league table having their performances analysed and performance bonuses awarded by an independent board who then score the ref's deciding on bonuses to be alloted and also ranking in the ref league table which will in turn decide the profile of game they will receive/potential paypacket they can pick up. the top refs get the chance to earn a bloody load of dosh and the independent body makes a weekly report on refs performances available to the public. How would that sound?

There isn't one of us that could do a job better than them. They have to do the best they can while we pick them apart with 24 camera angles. Where they get one view and we have little idea of the exact angle he's at.

I think it's become an impossible job the TV stuff is so good these days. I'm all for atleast big decisions being made by TV and letting the ref enforce that ruling.

Take a simple penalty like Dafoes for england. Even with the benefit of tv replays that was argued about on this forum. Yet the Ref has to call that instantly with one view.

Then we all pick that apart from 15 replays.

None of the refs deserve to be abused and for me it sets the wrong example to kids and parents throughout the leagues. Go watch a sunday league ref get abused by all and sundry, doing a thankless task so their kid can play football.

Forget sending fergie to the stands, make him ref a sunday league game. See how he does:D

he'd just tell those kids that if they tried anything on he'd go round their houses and stamp on their toys.

actually i wouldn't mind seeing the gene genie ref a premiership match. (not going to make any sense if you never saw life on mars).

I'm pretty certain I could actually :p I get more decisions correct than the ref just by watching it in real-time on the tele, if I was there it'd be a hell of a lot easier as well.

Then go try it. Your watching the one bit of action on TV, your also sat in your armchair not running to keep up with the play. Try running to keep up with ronaldo and then try to decide if he's dived or not.

Your complete focus is on the section the tv crews give you, the ref has to watch so much more.

clattenberg made several, completely game changing decisions that were completely incorrect, his accountability, was someone giving him the weekend off, then he was back, making crappy decisions. then he's crap again, then he's crap again and again, and the result, at some point he'll get another weekend off. boohoo.

a jobs a jobs a job, 99% of ref's won't get the facup final anyway, but they will referee a prem game most weekends, and it doesn't really matter which one, a jobs a job, its to referee for 90 mins. so far i haven't really seen any accountability. firstly because there aren't enough referee's. also we have a bunch of overpaid idiots doing it. as i said, the thing i hate most is when they get something clearly wrong but they have a smug smile like they have all the power on earth. they make mistakes and change games and they get to keep doing it constantly, they appear to be starting to enjoy and like the power too much. they know they can deny a penalty, and hold it over a bunch of incredibly well paid, loved stars and that makes them feel all good. i can't see another reason for a smug smile when players complain. its his job, he calls it correctly on incorrectly, why would they look smug denying a penalty.

What a big moan alex is. He's set up his United side to bully Arsenal around a few times and thought nothing of it. Then United half arsedly get bullyed off the ball and he throws a big fuss. What goes around comes around!

Referee's can't win. It only takes one decision to go against a team for that referee to be slated by players, managers and the media alike. Its so easy for a manager to blame the referee as they are never going to blame themselves or any of their own players.

I doubt referee's want the limelight. They may try to become notorious with players to get them to toe the line but they don't benefit from being slated in the media.

Nothing will change unless referee's are made redundant and replaced by robots. Even then the robots programming will be called into question. Referee's are human beings who will, like all the others, make mistakes.

I'm as unhappy with referee's as anyone when the decisions go against my team but I don't think blaming them for game outcomes constantly will achieve anything.

More Clattenburg news ,

David Moyes has been charged by the Football Association following comments made in the aftermath of Everton's derby defeat to Liverpool.
The Toffees lost 2-1 to their local rivals at Goodison Park on 20th October and Moyes was unhappy with the performance of referee Mark Clattenburg.

Liverpool were awarded two penalties, while Everton were denied a late spot-kick and also had Tony Hibbert and Phil Neville sent off.

Moyes' subsequent outbursts against Clattenburg have now prompted FA intervention with regards to two alleged breaches of FA Rule E3.

The FA charge states: "It is alleged that the comments made referring to referee Mark Clattenburg on each respective occasion amount to improper conduct as they call into question Mr Clattenburg's integrity and/or imply that Mr Clattenburg was motivated by bias."

The Everton manager has a fortnight to respond to the charges.
personally i thought Clattenburg did well that match .. oh seeing as its xmas ill use a bloody smilie :p

Yup tis a disgrace, you'd never see proper managers like Arsene behave like that.
